Well, thank you so much, Gareth. It was really quite an adventure to bring family and friends together to help script and shoot short films for the first time because that was my own version of Hollywood. So, I braved the odds right after college and moved to Los Angeles where I began performing in community theater stage productions. Subsequently did some Background work in TV and Film for some time. Managed to book a few acting gigs in student films and indie projects here and there. And it never ended, the projects and opportunities only got larger and larger.
As soon as I arrived in a new country, I found myself in an enormous soundstage that had a spaceship set alongside talented actors, and a wonderful crew! The moment was truly special to me as I made friends with the creative team that I still cherish to this day. The most profound moment for me was also when I premiered in great roles and auditioned for the global talent search as one of the leads of Space Command. Â
Shifting cities shocked me, what shocked me more was how my work multiplied when I moved to Atlanta from LA, at the current moment, I have played several guest roles in episodic programs along with a myriad of films including The Walking Dead, Doom Patrol, Ms. Marvel and Young Rock. I’ve also been cast in movies like Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, and Red Right Hand. I’ve played several roles across many of these films that I would consider to be groundbreaking moments for me.
Stunt work in recent years has become increasingly recognized, recently there have been calls to snub violence earned during the Oscars. The excitement of movies like The Fall Guy has given the editing perspective a viewpoint. How our audience could understand and appreciate how you started them?
My childhood dream was to enter this world and more so, to star in action movies. I’ve spent a lot of time working with sword fighting and stage combat and earned quite a bit of effort by working with combat wires, theatrical falls, wall explosions, squib vests, and even cinematic gun training.Â
The short answer to the question of whether it is timely to introduce an Oscar for Best Stunt Category is yes. I, however, have high hopes for the final voting but, as I said, it is a true art and it is fascinating to watch the synergistic effect where planning, choreography, strategy and athletic performance come together as one.Â
There are actors, there are stunts, there are stunt performers who can act but every actor claims they perform their own stunts, its the circle of life movie magic.
What can you tell us about the Redemption and how does it fit in the general framework of the previous entries in the series? Space Command: Redemption is an epic sci-fi saga, in which my character, Captain Jack Kemmer, fulfills his great destiny together with his brave team on board the spaceship: Paladin. Now, as an ex-archaeologist, my character, who is seated on the fringes of Mars in the story, retrieves the so-called ‘domino’ which starts commotion that has the potential to change the history of this galaxy.
A captivating dimension that makes the Space Command Franchise stand out from the rest is the fact that there is action, there is adventure and most essence, there is depth to it. For creators Marc and Elaine Zicree, this narrative provides a better insight into what the possible future in the universe could be. As Redention states, the present decisions that we take are not only important but the future generations will ba able to have a holistic view about these decisions.
As the series unfolds, could you explain what your character is like or how he evolves, as far as his personality is concerned with respect to evolution?
In my opinion, Jack Kemmer has gradually grown as a person who does not need to attach himself to a decision and has developed the capacity to follow his gut feeling in order to ask for help.
The most pertinent questions on the other axis of your work the challenges you went through and the most hilarious things that happened, is there anything from that you would want to tell us?Â
Probably, the biggest challenge I had was trying to keep it together and not to go out of my mind too much on the set every day. True, we are in the middle of a huge spaceship working with people whose faces you’ve watched on the screen for more than a decade… but, still you have to breathe, give a moment, and then get started.
I remember quite fondly that wonderful day when the Paladin bridge was being launched by an ardent audience and I was just dressed in some cool Space Command officer outfit, I was being introduced in the movie as Zeno. Still now, out of many things that are regarded as entertainment, that period has got to be one of the most entertaining of all of them. You can only wish to see the world coming together and pinching yourself because things like those seem to be impossible.
How hard do you think was it for Pavel to reincarnate in that world again?
Sustaining this umbilical attachment to life on earth is rather easy when the main point is to exclusively concentrate on the writing. You, Marc and Elaine have written the scripts so every now and then with each of them gets immersed in a part of the story, they need to make sure that the other elements like the characters and events fit inside the Space Command saga.
But will they be able to do that and drag you to make some appearances in some conventions for it?
The good news is that we have accompanied Chrester and De Costilo at some fascinating conventions that hosted their movie. I’m hopeful that’s just the beginning.
We have presented the trailers and episodes for various shows at San Diego Comic-Con, WonderCon, LosCon, WhoLanta, Star Trek Las Vegas and so on. On the other hand seeing so many terrific people who love this show is, it is just like going home for Thanksgiving, bringing the family all together after a long time.
What are you going to do next?
Among the future projects that are fairly interesting is myself headlining the cast of a lead gritty thriller feature, Love Dogs, directed by West Eldredge. Recently, I managed to work out a post-apocalyptic feature with the title On The Run which was co-directed by Isaac Stovall and Tabitha Jordan where Zeb Cross portrays Bryan McClure’s Space Command brother. And also, you can catch my supporting role in KEMBA directed by Kelley Kali, a BET Original about Kemba Smith who was a former advocate against crime and for criminal justice reform.
