Presence (2024)

The ghost of Steven Soderbergh has remarkable plans for his piece titled, Presence as he sheds light on three characters who are from American suburbs and reside in a house older than a century. The way it sounds is interesting but brings some questions along, the most difficult one being, how does Soderbergh himself portray such an image? He pays attention to the detail which corresponds to the various worse comes to show frames and angles. Such beauty is manufactured by a ghost. How does a Semiotica or film oratorial English act as the center of the movie, One in which Soderbergh is also the director and is a photographer? All in all, as for the empty skeleton key to this riddle, it’s absence.

Straight off the bat, I would like to clarify that such a quote is not entirely correct nor is it entirely wrong. In ‘Presence’, we can just as easily recall the whole movie as an episode where the greater entity overseeing the house comes to life while we view the movie. There is always a spirit that hovers and supervises the event, and it seems to possess the information always; not a single movement goes unnoticed. In this instance, however, it is Soderbergh himself who is in the capacity of the soviet, (Appliance used for this film) the cinematographer. He filmed several of his works starting with The Traffic, but seems to appreciate the idea that part of the enjoyment of Soderbergh’s Presence was simply that, in his ghost-like character Soderbergh found a way to work on the film. To put it another way, to be an active participant in the action and still not have to be.

Thus certain counter-offensive actions will ensue because it makes sense to ask the question in the following manner, how can a spirit evoke fear in others? Also, this would not be able to be disputed. When, for example, Garrison Avenue Builders seeks drama with those who are credible and have a clear understanding of how action families operate, the images that they are dragged into are, nevertheless, not that dark. A First Look for instance is not an MOSS definition speech. In the case of Meganekler preservation, then, it is obvious that it is an aspect of translation work. As for gloves, Presence is the most or quite simply put the most serious work but does not make one confused. It dies and carries books to the working desk however in this case, the high lifting of the book cover wrapped in a controlled craving does not count. One way of doing it is to go out without the bottom and put Firenzi to bang against the wardrobe of one female character. These images whirl practices of a budget and further impact and the Paranormal Activities sequels hit.

But not really. In conjunction with ‘Presence,’ the fact that it is predominately existing, and for quite a long time, it exists is some sort of impressionistic film which has such a peculiar and ostentatious form that one scarcely remembers it. Soderberg presents the entire movie in one single cut long take, then from the frame skips to black any movements in the sequence. Everything is extremely stylish and percussive. Only, had he discharged the picture in San Francisco rather than indulging in the idea of a ghost cameraman, it would likely project the same idea.

You can tell that the family structure of this family has been dysfunctional and dislocated. Lucy Liu plays the role of the mother Rebecca, who has a preferred child and wants to dominate everything which is not normal for a family setting. Rebecca certainly is a high finance super bitch or may have committed abysmal crimes according to Mary Tyler. Tyler comes off as pleasant and cheerful while out in the public domain, but sadly within the family framework he is a sociopath and the worst kind of vicious bully and his teenage sister, Chloe for some reason, is now dragging herself through a dark epoch of despair but because of the overdosing of a close friend, Nadia a couple of months back she has only managed to fit in the generic whining blues that surrounds the life of a teenager. Two teenagers from this school already died that way. Soderbergh takes his sweet time to study the children, however only Chloe stands a chance to sense the ghost. Who is the ghost that haunts neither ad can guard everyone, the reason for what the ghosts do is still unanswered.

Though Soderbergh is quite fond of his small films, one finds it hard to agree with him because he believes those films are far superior to the other ‘cut elbows’ of a movies that other directors pay attention to. Nevertheless, one thing is above dispute: a significantly higher percentage of their target is aimed at Soderbergh himself to enjoy the working process. In other words, that’s a rather strange perspective regarding art making or even movie making. Still, not a surprise that this particular filmmaker tends to produce these types of films in a way that feels right and also new age, but it is boring. It seems like someone is assembling a jigsaw puzzle while simultaneously producing the pieces.

This time, the script for the movie was written by David Koepp. I don’t think I have to remind you that he was also the writer for Soderbergh’s film ‘Kimi’ (2022), which, concerning the current film we are discussing, is much more watchable. This ghost concept in the film called presence is more like a collateral which is supposed to be the mainstay of the film but it shoots a little bit too flat at the end and does not have great twists, little. Instead, the movie locates its primary issue right in human territory, even more so when Chloe goes a little far and tricks Tyler’s friend played by West Mulholland, who appears to be a bit of a delinquent and a teenage boy. He is a good young man and in addition to all the presence, they also shine in this movie Presence. Callina Liang rounds out Chloe’s extended melancholic arc Rebecca is then transformed into a snaky daughter by Lucy Liu who plays the temptress that makes you reveal the numerous layers of scheming, and Chris Sullivan was particularly interesting to me as a tormented father figure, crumpled in Louis CK fashion, as a rule of thumb, raising little kids who have to refrain from bad language because Babels seem like they are on the verge of forming, gets out of fashion.

The cynical presence that permeates the show always has a perverse irony with the rest of the issues, such as gloom, teenage mental illness, or the existence of psychopaths, and presence is another one of the teases and is a more presumable expectation of how the plot for this movie is to end. But, a Soderbergh prank he’s got right up to this moment, yet he’s now a ghost in that illogical leftover of that half a star.
