Barbie & Kendra Collide with Joe Bob’s, the Drive-In Jamboree, the 14th of the franchise has brought some more oddball characters and wild comedy from the Full Moon company. Even though Charles Band is behind the director’s camera in each and every film in this series, this is the first time Shane Bitterling has had contact with the famous bimbos. Is this a baseball home run or the beginning of the end for the franchise?
Barbie aka Cody Renee Cameron and her best friend Kendra Robin Sydney are still on the couch like they always have. For them, especially, it is Once in a while that they experience having no sense of belonging anywhere. Barbie dreamed of a man around who would devote himself to her, but apparently, there hasn’t been one worthy of her affection. All that changes with the appearance of Joe Bob Briggs (who plays himself in the movie) who makes a commercial about his automobile drive-in and tells how his annual jamboree is going to be. Barbie and Kendra are all geared up and willing to ride their motorbike to Vegas.
As the jamboree begins, a few fans become overly enthusiastic and jump on Joe Bob. Some of his friends then check their phone and find a voicemail which exposes Stu Dio’s plan of making huge changes, tearing down the drive-in entrance and building a golf course. This scene was further enhanced by the incorporation of Amusingly ineffective American voice dubbing ads that are well known for English Foreign Movies showcasing Joe Bob’s differing standpoint while on the go.
The only criticism I have regarding the movie Barbie and Kendra, crushing Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree is that its runtime is quite short, lasting only for 50 minutes. Within that time span, there’s hardly enough time to capture Barbie and Kendra in the midst of a Life Crisis scenario along with attempting to express the meaning of Jamboree to the ‘Freaks’. For the intro, there isn’t enough time to showcase Stu Dio’s schemes as well which is why everything is so rushed. Many things had to be sacrificed due to this time constraint, one of them being Stu Dio but her character arc was an absolute mess. And there was no effort made to address how poorly she was introduced to the audience by simply defeating her, like all the other movies, Barbie & Kendra Save The Tiger King and Barbie & Kendra Storm Area 51, for example, Corona Zombies. There was virtually no buildup.
To sum it up, this picture is nothing short of a comedy and without a doubt, the best in the series. The Turkish Exorcist in the film is forward and surely one of the most artistic that there is. Every moment in the film is vivid and the comedian’s punch lines are as crafty as they’ve ever been, something that is sure to delight the oddness of the characters. The concept of within a film, there exists another film is amusing on its own as well. The best parts of the story include strangers who get inside the car where Barbie and Kendra are watching the action and other crazy aspects of the storyline.
Activating her acting muscles, Cameron shows off the dramatics with gusto. Being the goofy self that she is, Sydney still manages to be very endearing. It is hard to miss the camaraderie they share as Barbie and Kendra Step Into the spotlight as the best friends and the only two people in the world that speak the same language. Briggs seems to have a bit of experience with movies of the low-budget type and seems to be well versed with Full Moon: he was married to Robin Sydney and Charles Band. So, it is not much of a surprise that the movie presenter is acquainted with such kinds of products. As expected he is charismatic, fun, and entertaining. So, he has his able helper Darcy (actually Diana Prince) with him, and she is terrific in the end. Although she is too limited in her role as in her proper development, it is clear that Rose is enjoying very much being a deranged caricature.
The complete number of the movie is ‘Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bob’s Drive-In Jamboree’. This is a comedic movie, and if it is not the funniest of the films released on this franchise, it is certainly up there. However, this movie has some cons. For example, an interesting plot or a conflict that must be solved can be said to be absent. But, on the other hand, Cameron and Sydney have never been better in the roles and Briggs fits seamlessly into the team. All in all, the movie is rather good, and those who prefer uncommon and episodic styles of film-making will surely enjoy it.
