Crescent City (2024)

The phrase “crescent city” in America translates to New Orleans, Louisiana. Additionally, crescent city is a title for an enthralling fantasy novel series as well. But what interests me is the relation these two have to the narrative of the film “Crescent City”, which was shot in and around Little rock Arkansas, but is very different from the suspense crime genre the movie claims to be. For what reason: What is the significance of the phrase “crescent city” in this context of the film? No explanation is provided and this quite the contrary is a very valid question and something I imagine would be the case with crime genre lovers. Which is quite thick from the film printstand to say the least, is most likely to be overlooked on what should be its show.

With looking to take the film in a different direction, ex. Having a large cast of characters and giving more detail on the story, R.J Collins the director of the film hopes to use this as a build to a larger franchise. But then again he has limits, and so does the cast to the film. It is entirely possible that the screenwriter is overzealous in his ambitions for Ronat, regarding all his scripts, and we seem to get more gratifying twists and their consequences than we want. In the end, I will say that his script largely disregards senselessness and naturalism, and Collins seems to be left with more plot and characters for him to command.

The city of Little Rock witnessed the horrifying murder of three individuals who had been decapitated by a killer who has started a psychopath…once again leaving a mannequin wo parts at the crime scene. This gruesome scene leads to Little Rock’s very own two least competent detectives to the job who are Bryan Sutter,a father with a complicated history,(played by Terrence Howard) and his verbally aggressive partner Luke Carson, played by Esai Morales.

These two have been a source of concern to their superior and the introduction of more bodies sees the addition of a check collecting Alec Baldwin into the mix but they don’t give their captain a sense of relief, So waters hire Jaclyn played by Nicki Whalen. Despite the character burden of being ‘Tulsa, Sydney,’ mainly, a hatchet-wielding murderous sergeant sleuth, she nevertheless defends herself. Although neither Brian nor Luke considers a retired homicide cop as their unable-to-be-cop supporter in peak summers when orders demand much of them they must stand a shower awaiting the heat wave. Before long, the three are conjuring spirits in the slash-and-burn hinterlands where they pretend to be lowly local odd ministers played by Michael Sirow while contacting a suspicious satanic dating website that they hope to turn into correction plates and then initiate an FBI investigation.

The above-mentioned points can form a stand-alone story on it. However, the film tries to incorporate so many plots, and goes into so many deceptions, and acts of treachery, that they cannot be pulled off. The identity of the film is also not clear. In one moment it is a cops and robbers story, then who is the killer, and then in the blink of an eye a tale about the struggles of a family, while at the same time, the movie is making excessive efforts of being a good crime drama. Quite frankly that is a bit too much.

They are good actors, Howard and Morales, and the story is able to handle them and I think they really did their work here. On the other hand though, Little Rock is a very interesting place to look at. Because at the end of the day, ‘Crescent City’ shoots itself in the foot by trying too hard. It seems like everyone who participated in the project is going against their will, a large number of authors’ replies are quite absurd and in general there are so many postulates that nobody bothers to prove. But this is what gets spent for its containment so to say – in other parts more attention is spared. So ‘Crescent City’ is a film that can be watched on VOD platforms and is a rental one.
