‘Time Cut’, Hannah MacPherson’s new film released by Netflix, was apparently filmed before ‘Totally Killer.’ However, it is inescapable that this film comes in the tradition of this film’s time travel. This film also does not have to be judged as there is another film which is better. If that movie didn’t exist for that matter if time travel movies never existed this too would be a very bad movie and the comparisons do not aid and yet how could anything? Also,
Madison Bailey had made such an impression in the blockbuster series ‘Outer Banks on Netflix, so there would be no argument that she was able to do a film of any sort. But here, MacPherson does not know how to constrain her and the end product is a film with quite a soporific performance in the zenith role. As Lucy Field, Bailey has been perplexed, petrified, and stirred confusion 2.5 expressions. Appears like most of the time Bailey is in such a situation where she thinks ‘This could have been a better film.
It’s now 2024, and we meet Lucy, an average girl who is likely in her mid-20s. However, there is one significant event in her life that stands apart, and that is the murder of her sister Summer which happened more than two decades ago. Moreover, her parents missed Summer so much that they tried so hard to have another child through IVF. ( This is important in the later context. Trust me on that).
Lucy is in a situation that is very confusing and strange. She time travels back to the day her sister was lowered in the coffin, all this in an effort to get to the bottom of Sweetly’s serial murder mystery. The Achilles’s heel heralded in Pisces is that if Summer is not killed it is still polite to come up with cute ideas around complaining parents.
Would you save your sister if it meant that you would never be born? It is rather intriguing how a film of this sort can traverse into such an emotion and McPherson as well as his co-writer, Michael Kennedy, seem to have little interest in pursuing this avenue. They simply fabricate fantasy threats to justify their irrational reasoning, and incredibly, the whole scenario is just within the esthetic framework since those involved in the ruckus look amused, further suggesting that the film is an ‘A’ grade one which was captured without a roll in the camera.
However, the majority of the viewers will have exited before they reach this end. While Lucy is busy gaping at the fashion ole of 2003 and listening to a song by Hilary Duff Opens a New Window that goes ‘So Yesterday’, ‘Time Cut’ lives up to its billing. It is the type of movie that one would categorically brand as a waste of time as it is devoid of plot twists or any form of emotions. Gluck, who was rather talented in ‘American Vandal’ I cannot recollect the last time I had a good laugh, is grossly wasted here in a ‘no-central-action boring role which is the case with the remaining cast. Most of the Herald News cast should be fortunate that they are not the most skilled people around in the world.
In addition, it is always difficult to work with actors who do not seek to master the role, and instead of playing the script or story out, they deliver improvised and cheesy lines least appealingly. This is a classic failure in directing whereby I fail to design an exciting environment for my characters or make them do anything captivating in the existing universe.
There is a running plot that I have which gets rather annoying even as I enjoy the likes of ‘Time Cut’, which is not something you should take me seriously for. And yes, I am now accustomed to the fact that every year, someone retrieves ‘Happy Death Day’ and sets it aside, so I am okay with it now. It wasn’t traveling through time, though, but that silly ‘Freaky’ was good. This part, and this show, entail more work than enjoyment, but everyone seems to be working faster than usual. I found the premise of a movie in which the characters go time travel once again interesting except for this time there is a lot of spice added to the plot. To be honest, I was only hoping that my wasted time would magically reappear after this.
