Since I was not going to earn anything, I went ahead and watched the horror thriller Succubus by R.J. Daniel Hanna. This seemed to be one of the over-the-top horror movies to me, which I no longer find interesting, much like my latest McDonald’s value meal. Still, I was brought up short, especially after learning how these filmmakers did not have much to show for their efforts. In spite of the perspective that it was a rather haphazard production, I was shocked It’s enthralling as my face stood glued to the screen from the very first part till the very last. It’s a movie that probably keeps touting its biggest audience through VOD services, but viewing it on the big screen was nevertheless pleasant.
Chris, depicted by Brendan Bradley, has as well been facing some rather alarming challenges while operating on the global front. And within them, he didn’t give up either he is supporting himself in part now that he and his wife Sharon (Olivia Grace Applegate) and their infant son live apart but he is still a bit hazy about what to do next. To make matters worse, his overbearing and critical mother Denise (Rosanna Arquette) puts him down because he can’t run his business efficiently while she is only interested in her grandchild.
Regardless of everything going on, Chris’s best friend, Eddie (Derek Smith), a complete womanizer however, assures him that, there are pretty ladies out there who are only on the urge to seek for a nice gent. Chris usually does not have much enthusiasm about the idea of virtual dating, which is something Chris has often expressed since he remains deeply in love with Sharon. A while later, Adra’s picture surfaced and the irony is that Adra was an adoring phone addict in the picture, as she is seen under the arms of a sexy woman. Why would Adra take a picture of the phone on her face? But, Adra’s photo that she has posted on Adra’s profile is nothing short of interesting, she makes people wonder about it; it makes people want to know more out of curiosity this is dissimilar to a lot of others who have such photos. Adra makes a lot of sense for Chris, Apart from the fact that he is very close to being a candidate for a bad nanny cam incident, yes this is one of the things it does for him, which gets him interested in her.
In this movie, Adra was played by Rachel Cook and it is apparent that there is a soft spot for Chris as she loves to play the role of a femme fatal. This to some extent makes me Cranican these ideas of relationality, as her role in the movie Christine Paul’s character is explicit in not wanting to just be a possession of Chris, but she is out to band the masses.
The classic demonic legend maintains that a succubus is a lovely female demon who comes to her spouse while he is sleeping and engages in sexual intercourse with him. Within multi-spouse ideologies, it is claimed that a succubus feeds on male sperm and since she is vigorously meted out by many men, there becomes some dependency long coexisting between them, even though the man in question is not a King who is to her, but does dominate or rather multi complicates her whenever they indulge in sex.
It is my opinion that in the said movie, Rachel is a modern version of the succubus.
What makes this film stand out is the fact that it is a genre film and the director has been able to pull it off. Jimmy Jung Lu has done a decent job with the cinematography and the music score by Andrew Brick Johnson has been able to correspond with the tension of the film. Peterson on the other hand, does a great job with set design in such a way that all of the characters and their contextual situations are carefully situated such that the violence in the movie becomes even more unsettling than it is meant to be. As such, viewing it on a large screen was quite enjoyable.
I remember when I first saw Chris who was portrayed by the famous Brendan Bradley, I instantly classified him as a geek or a nerd who spends every waking hour on a computer and social media raking in millions, figures which I can never imagine earning (yes, envious). But throughout the film, Bradley does not permit Chris to be a jerk, instead, he works hard throughout the film to show us that Chris is a good person and depicts several scenes of him where Chris is attempting to change for the better but does not have the right motivation.
As for Eddie, he belongs to a group of males who take pride in being men and show little relaxed feelings towards life, and that’s where Derek Smith makes his entrance, apparently Eddie with a little emotional more intelligence. All of them seem to have deserted Riley in the final moments of the show as there is in most of the comics an age limit behind which life seems to him a series of long-lasting regrets scooped up and dropped messily probably and culminating in a rather ephemeral ending. For this reason, all of the guys might as well be crossing their legs out of love in protection.
There’s also Olivia Grace Applegate portraying the estranged wife of Chris, Sharon for once came to bat for her husband who thanks to Emily Kincaid played Sharon’s friend called Charlisse who she invited to a pre-wedding ceremony and who is trying hard to live in that awkward state called single.
