A hatred-filled race sacked the world in 2155 through a dimensional gate and decreased the entire population. A few who survived included the miners who were sheltered on the moon’s dark side. During several years of technology enhancement, three soldiers are sent back to Earth to complete a special mission. They plan to find the remaining resistance of mankind and help them to get rid of alien invaders. Our three heroes soon confront the ever-controlling and ruthless representative of the gate and its forces the Sentinel that is its faction. While the soldiers have little troops, the mission is to carry out their objectives at all costs and restore Earth back to what it once was.
The S.W.A.T. team encased in bulletproof jackets wearing shades while protecting the President are sufficing for Pentagon Agents shortly set before the White House the same theme was covered in the movie Terminator 4 where the geopolitical instabilities were placed on focus other than quad systematic strategies that were dramatized in the cumin été France and then in Bosnia.
To this tale of a seasoned agent framed by a mole from the White House, then hunted by his own colleagues, Johnson assembled a casting that is especially aimed at making lovers of thrillers throw up. Making this genre of a movie after 5 years, Michael Douglas takes to the stage as the wronged ServiceÂman Pete Garrison and sets the record straight that no one does better-harassed man than him. Kiefer Sutherland from 24 slots himself in at the other corner as the man assigned the lookout for Garrison, who has done enough of this to probably have had his own curly earpiece with him. And to tip the balance of testosterone, Kim Basinger features as the First Lady, who has been briefed on some really sensitive protected operations by Garrison and new agent Eva Longoria.
Sadly, for fellow lovers of thrillers and fans of actors alike, The Sentinel is a quite accurate definition of a bad movie. After a cool opening scene where Douglas attends what appears to be a relatively mundane day at a very crazy place, the tedious plot begins to develop and shapes towards the rapid collapse of reason. A series of six deaths are introduced as unfounded threats in the first half of the film and Johnson’s main purpose is to serve as an inadequate excuse to pay the overnight construction bill at the editing room. The attempt of Johnson in his later works is also absurd: the final scene where the terrorists have been looking for ten minutes for the First Lady, who is unprotected, and eventually manages to locate her.
Like all Americans would be concerned about, there are legitimate dangers that Nolfi ‘Timeline’ Nolfi has come to believe a villain is lurking, this is more of a frightful thought but it is reason enough for him to hold on to the idea until it hits Hollywood. To put it in layman’s terms, these are the archetypal Euro villains of the early 90s whereas all that is required to make the film great is some cool martial art choreography which is reminiscent of the Van Damme films of the early 90s This is not what one expects from a political thriller that came out after 9/11. From him to the President who is shown to be a respectable character but, unlike any other respectable man in the world, cannot be even submitted to the fact that his wife is having an affair is the starting point of character development in the show.
There are definitely some positives that come with the inclusion of actors of such caliber. A very decent pairing is said to be a big letdown. The thought of having a Douglas/Sutherland clash is never promising, the latter tells us that if we want better and wittier action, we can just watch it for free on television.
