It’s funny how some movies are described as not taking too long to watch, whereas in fact, in the case of the family crime flick “Riff Raff,” it feels longer than its actual duration of 103 minutes. This is especially understandable considering the direction of Dito Montiel. When it comes to Riff Raff (2012), nothing much can truly be stated. For starters, any performance from the all-star cast does not amount to much since the film is pretentious and has a trope-like story with little content to offer the audience. It is notable how in ‘Riff Raff’, the concepts of twists and multilogues are present, but used poorly, which leads to the impression that the content doesn’t meet the expectations.

The prologue is self-contained and thus, in it DJ is required to impress the audience by effectively portraying a teenage boy who points a pistol at a battered old man by the name of Vincent who is most likely his step-father. This old blood-soaked man DJ served as a voice-over and he narrates that he has never seen eye to eye with that man. In ‘A Beautiful Pain’ these two were best friends and co-actors in a movie they filmed during a vacation in a summer house. Perfectly contradicting their shooting sessions they were not introducing a linear storytelling structure enhancing the viewer’s ability to understand that there is always a middle and a beginning. As a result, both the characters have already experienced the ‘end’ of this story.

Throughout the entire film, these two characters rather stay flat and seem to be devoid of any emotions where they constantly refuse to be restrained by the affection and romance Sandy depicts to them feeling out of place, ruining their relationship. This leads to sarcasm where Gabrielle Union who is Sandy is ironically the second wife of Vincent Davidson.

Yet DJ’s father appears all of a sudden at home one night rather late with his troublesome son Rocco (Lewis Pullman), his handsome Italian lover Marina (Emanuela Postacchini), and his boozed-up mother Jennifer Coolidge, who also happened to be Vincent’s ex-wife. They came to visit with the plan of celebrating the new year with family but at that moment Vincent is not sure about his son as he seems to be having some issues. A good family life is put on “pause” when they drop by unexpectedly.

In this case, to say seek out and destroy but not entirely understand what or where, a retired mafioso Leftie, a left on-the-spectrum Bill Murray, and his charming young associate Lonnie Shelby Pete Davidson are out absolutely looking for someone. There is a high possibility that the individual that they are supposedly looking for is in this winter location but the delivery of such information is very slow and comes at very long intervals. When the delay begins to conclude, the two different aspects of Vincent’s family life begin to coalesce and the interactions that ensue are hilarious in the beginning because in the beginning all of them have a stereotype and all lack social confidence.

In his portrayal of DJ, Pullman substitutes his soft, timid character from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ to a foul-tempered bad boy character with unresolved daddy issues, and this actually does suit him. Another newcomer Harvey is also quite fascinating, as a small child dreaming big and nursing college prep. It is, however, rather amusing how he tends to approach losing love from a rather unfeeling point of view given his affinity towards being a math and science student. It makes sense, that an older sibling would be very useful in such a case, just like Rocco needs someone to instruct him in terms of preparing him for fatherhood. Taking all of this into consideration, all this goes to Rocco’s head giving him a reason to remain calm knowing that all DJ does is get a little over-excited whenever he sees an exciting movie.

In Mike did it, as anticipated, Mike finds it boring to be the professional killer’s disconnection piece. Unless it’s a real biopic, in the bold introductory introduction of the story, most of the characters showcased seem to be quite garrulous and messy in their own anthropological understanding of the character an ideal approach of the story at hand charted by John Pollono who fanciful pens although most of the time, there’s no space for them to expand. Ruth’s character has been minimized to a stereotype, that of Coolidge: an edgy but very willing-to-good social drinker. However, the latter seems to me to be less of a type.

In Postacchini’s tale, Marina tries to get DJ to love and understand a few basic life lessons but none of them help the character in any way. From what is shown Sandy’s role seems to be a filler character whose main goal is trying to explain some of the more confused characters but is quite flat in character. Harris’ Vincent is all over the place and he is definitely an interesting character but is one that seems to have a lot of energy and passion but no real substance. However, this is supposedly revealed to us as we find out more of his backstory, especially in regard to two men who happened to be going somewhere and were related to him, but Montiel is never one to take advantage of such interesting beginnings and instead prefers to tell the public all of Vincent’s secrets by the very end. To put it simply, the majority of the potential benefits arrive significantly later than expected.

The animated television series, which has completed multiple seasons, is voiced over by Ali Wong and Randall Park, who have given their impressive performance. Surprising as it is, they are not physically in this film. Explaining the context of the dead in the film, Yu narrates through the lens of flashbacks. Yelchin’s characters mark the shifting sands of perversion and tease within the collage of myriad components. He is a canine gravel mixed with fleet foot and a sadist conman. Two personalities whether breathing in one role, but still managing to keep viewers bound to them entirely. Probably this character is the most captivating aspect of the movie, but its orientation is unusual because we had the chance to observe him through other people’s eyes.
