Blink (2024)

The documentary which was meant to be a raw light hearted video espousing the joys of familial travel, turned out bleak due to showcasing the harsh hardships and struggles families have to deal with, and indeed a sob story drama on repeat. But on the other side, Dinner Rocher along with Edmund Stinson held the perspective that there was no point in dwelling on the grim and miserable prospects of any trip, instead they preferred focusing on the more positive aspects of life itself.

The Lemay Pelletier Family consisting of Edith and Sebastien along with their four children including a four year old Laurent at the time of the filming of the documentary, along with Colin and Leo aged nine and six similarly had set out with the aim of bringing home the win. A few others however were more disheartened, this included Colin, Mia and Laurent who were diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, a disease for which no known treatment exists as of now.

Edith asserts while attending to several chores related to laundry, “I mean, I have 4 kids, chaos is all you can expect,” but in spite of this, we see the family make trips for free eye examinations only to be told bad news. The their narration of Montreal life reveals the everyday side of motherhood in artful detail.

In what could be characterized as an almost compelling way, the parent then explains that the reason they can take endless photographs is because that wall shielded the children as they grew and is very close to what had been seen previously.

They compile a wish list of all the activities they would like to do and the locations they would like to see around the world during the summer, then they embark on a global expedition in order to try to tick out as many items as possible from the list. Yes, some fantasies are quite simply that, ‘I want to eat a scoop of ice cream’ and others, smore like ‘I do wanna go on a safaris’, while ‘I do want to have some friends from other countries’ for sure are some of the more basic ones. There are many activities which have their own amusement for sure but unfortunately they also have their own sadness.

There are times when a child needs to be carried around by an adult’s hip, for example when being carried through the muddy terrain of an amazon jungle or an adult being carried through the mountainous trails of the Himalayas. And considering the details, In what Edith and Sebastien, the film’s characters, ask the kids, these kids do not embarrass the adult feelings in having to take care of these extreme parenting” adults too.

Notwithstanding, the DP Jean Sebastien Francoeur is also pulling back a bit in order to include elements such as for example the sunset over sand dunes or the blue sky dotted with hot air balloons.  Although they may complain, just like every child who goes on a vacation with the family, the Pelletier siblings bicker about boredom, cold, tiredness or hunger always instead of whining about Operating skills with their siblings.

Just like preteens, teens enjoy late night soccer matches but as the night culminates, the fear of loss roughens the nurturing side of the sport ultimately transforming it into a more professional one. This fear is heightened while traveling to Ecuador as the Family gets half suspended on a gondola for more than 9 hours, it must be terrifying for people.

Children without any disabilities are lured to new places by a purpose while for the special ones the philosophy behind the journey serves as a reason, which to us has been countless times beautifully executed. Regarding simplicity great importance is accorded when Colin Perkins a native from Alaska sheds tears /cries loudly when he is asked to leave his parents who took him to Nepal for a holiday and go off to pet a cute dog named Bella.

As moving as all of that sounds it’s so conflicting as Him Angi and Slava’s interview recollection’s changes the image depicted by Perkins while hoping to draw”. This tenet is regarded as one of the strongest ideas to support change people are unchanging.

If you are wondering how is it possible for this Family to go on a journey and for a whole year take off crossing all these different places well this doesn’t seem like such a difficult approach to understand and that is why Sébastien notes this in working the company he earned an income both from the business and from sale of his shares when the company was sold as well.

Additionally, they also kept aside a neat budget of $200 for each day without fail. This usually meant that they lived more with families and in dorms, which made the area more interesting and enabled them to get to know the locals.

I think it would have been good to have some background information about the kind of parents they were during the start of the hero’s journey, which probably was one of the contributing factors as to why they had the courage to set off this great mission in the first place. Children’s interactions with them and each other only during those few still moments of the day says a lot about their impressive wits too and their spirit.
