In no way does this movie The Vampire Next Door fit the ‘scope of a horror movie’, instead, it is a hilarious movie that mixes together some of the most essential themes found in romantic comedies, as well as more coming-of-age movies. It’s a drama-comedy with a tad bit of action in it, so people do die, but it does not contain gory special effects just for the sake of it.
This is a justified conclusion because this picture borrows some ideas from ‘The Girl Next Door’, where the movie is comedic and a bit romantic. Oh! In ‘The Vampire Next Door’, there is also A Party Animal I remember – a quasi-idealistic campus Kapoor. American advertising flourished about it, while we don’t hear much about it because it’s not a traditional college fantasy comedy. Fingers crossed, in other words, we are rightful in asking for a more positive development in The Vampire Next Door.
Alex Matthews plays Starved Cameron, a teen who deals with teenage struggles such as an annoying mother reminding him to eat healthy, a dad wanting him to get his act together, and most importantly, a strikingly gorgeous teenage girl named Diane Bella who he’s been head over heels for but hasn’t had the courage to even talk to her. Everything goes south for Cameron when his new neighbors move in including the stunning young vampire Victoria Jessica who sets on a blazing downward path for him.
In The Girl Next Door, Cameron can be seen doing all the stuff he did with his character in previous movies. We remember him being locked in his room, and needing to go out of the window to see what the noise outside was, in this movie however in this movie he does see curtains first before there’s a hot new trend he gets to hear about.
This time, Cameron is inside his bedroom and teasing him about how she likes to change clothes instead of Victoria ringing the doorbell and crossing the road. Victoria has decided to barge into his bedroom and now he can’t stop thinking about whether or not he enjoys watching her change clothes.
The situation now is pretty weird especially for Cameron as he knows Victoria went missing but instead of panicking and scolding her, he calmly soothes, pushes, and asks her to leave, but she seems easy to shake off, however, she claims otherwise, teasing and claiming that all she to do is to tell his parents how much he likes peeping. This is a rather unusual but interesting friendship that is beginning and has some value for Cameron.
Cameron goes ahead and tries to get Victoria into a car to drop Scan and get over her but she instead ends up guiding him to an industrial unit. A man answers the door and welcomes them, but a while later the man is running out while shouting for help. Victoria tries to chase him around the car where she meets Cameron who is rather nervous. And then without thinking she beats him, tearing off her strictly sharpened teeth from around his neck. Cameron never really thought to ask why her cheeks were so full or why she had so much blood around her mouth but now he understands because there’s a vampire.
After Victoria has begun to trust him, she ends up asking him to be her chauffeur during hunting trips, and so an opportunity that seemed like a one-off job turns into a proper career.
Cameron doesn’t enjoy the second death that much judging by Victoria’s finger-sucking image and the blood around her mouth but the second vampire’s demise definitely was not as fun as the first one. Later in the night, it is to be noticed by Victoria that she still owed Cameron an explanation for the worst mistake she had ever made by visiting him in his bedroom without clothes on.
So it looks like Cameron has been wrong about Victoria all along when he thought she was a bloodthirsty monster because she comes from the Clan that was created and had a male supreme who was her husband, and she has spent two centuries looking for the vampires who killed him.
At first, Cameron is shocked and thrilled about being promoted to Victoria’s aide because he thinks that she’s executing vampires and that’s how the murder he aided actually happened. As is clear, most of the vampires she has hunted in the town were relatively simple and young so taking care of them was obtrusive. The female in the list is the last one and is older so she is harder to overcome. But considering the scenario where it was her who choked the master neck of Victoria there are no choices left.
One of the films I have watched in recent times that has entertained me is “The Vampire Next Door”. I think it is around an hour and 50 minutes, it is long but I would have liked it to be even longer so that I could have heard more of the captivating characters.
The Vampire Next Door indeed gives the impression of being an indie film, at least it looks as if the production was short of funds. Regardless, the storyline is quite engaging and, unlike most indie movies, it has some pretty decent filming as well, alongside good performances from actors with around four or so movies under their belts.
Alex Mathews has previously done a couple of short movies and guest-starred at the Unearthed Tapes Sketch Show. The Vampire Next Door appears to be his film debut as it is his only feature film. However, from the viewer’s perspective, he doesn’t appear to be a novice as there are quite a few quotes and funny performances as well as comical expressions when things get strange. If you were looking for chills right through the film, you might want to think twice. Although there are a few episodes of violence, these are scantily spread within the otherwise humorous content and the so-called vampires are more entertaining rather than scary. Thus, as it is expected to be just another horror film, The Vampire Next Door will not be a hit.
Jessica Ferguson makes a compelling argument to be cast in the role of Victoria. Other than making a wise decision to star in a short film called Cobra City, I would say that her work in The Vampire Next Door would be lost. Jessica Ferguson, playing the badass vampire, is tipped to have the necessary skills to bring Cameron closer by being determined to woo him and some more encouraging him to develop his fighting skills which comes in handy when some boys at high school start to bully him.
In this particular instance poorly put together Victoria is supposed to be steaming hot and she has approached him several times, however, the spark of Cameron’s desire has never been ignited with her but as always Diane is the one he adores. Cameron and Diane have become friends because there is no sexual attraction between them and basing them as a couple is unrealistic. You don’t need to analyze this movie deeply to understand that perhaps Diane is rather patiently waiting for something from Cameron.
Well, it isn’t something on a normal day, but a chain of events results in him attempting to salvage his friend Martin’s (Andrew Larkin) chances with Diane after he leaves her at prom and goes for her a second time.
That can be said with a lot of confidence as well that in addition to everything, history has some interesting and unanticipated twists: There is no shortage of cases in this case. Victoria manages to find her last victim, Martin gets to have a date with Diane, and as for Cam, he becomes mature, tries to understand who he is, and passes through a number of important milestones.
