The Greatest Night in Pop 2024

In the beginning, there is the seed of doubt that The Greatest Night in Pop might be overhyped to the extent of being called a glorified puff piece, something which many would have constantly feared the moment they got the whiff of it. Of how many badly produced, incoherent, talking head features about musicians or music in movements, as documentary about music, can one watch? But Sundace has become a hub for these alternative music docs which are not just autobiographies of musicians talking about their good old times So all I can say is that the atmosphere inside that theater during the opening day of practices for Twenty Feet From Stardom was epic and that America, while waiting for the online premiere of Summer of Soul (Or When the Revolution Could Not be Televised) over Sundance 2021, became a household where there was applause. Only last year did docs on Little Richard and then Paula Cole and the Indigo Girls came out. So it is equally gripping to showcase a doc which includes recordings of the making of the song ‘We are the World’ at this year’s Sundance, well before it is scheduled to be streaming on Netflicks next week.

So much good news is in this story that in striking contrast to the traditional average rock docs, this film’s mantra is its absolute bluntness, which reaches its highest point when examining the embroidery which all had a hand in the process of recording the album that also came close to being ruined, some of the guests quarreled and one even drank to excess.

At first glance, Quincy Jones appears to be a genius while watching The Greatest Night In Pop. Fair enough, Lionel Richie (the interviewee of this particular clip) along with Michael Jackson were the main contributors to We Are the world however, the man who managed to bring all of these idols together and executed one of the largest music projects in the 80s was Quincy itself. To say the least, watching him in action as a creative mind is extremely engaging. (And thanks for Geldof, too)

However, before we get to that, let us take a look at how The Greatest Night in Pop has been striving to try and adjust the history of the video towards the music ecosystem and key actors of 1984 this ended up having Harry Belafonte, who could more than fairly be termed as among the 20th century’s most formidable performers, addressing the question “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” with regard to an American single designed around raising money for famine relief in Africa.

Richie and Jackson were the main creators of the song Richie, on the other hand, has intriguing stories about composing a song at the late MJ right where Bubbles the Chimp and other pets were present and it was the music manager Ken Kragen who always had a brilliant idea as to when it to do this.

Kragen kind of controlled everyone who was performing and attending the show including Richie he invited everyone to attend, when Musically the American Music Awards show on January 21, 1985, .was over

Much of the rest of the Greatest Night in Pop’s performance consists of introducing/reminding people who are the main actors. To begin with, why was it so essential for Stevie Wonder to feature? Why is it Cyndi Lauper, rather than Madonna? Was Prince ever contacted regarding this? What was the extent of Huey Lewis’s terror? Unfortunately, why has never anyone said why was Dan Aykroyd there, is just one of the many such questions.

To which, I think many are acquainted, that intro segment perhaps borrowed from the credits of VH1’s documentary, moves to the rest of the show which promises, The Greatest Night in Pop. A lot of the material relating to the night is taken from trivia like Sheila E., Bruce Springsteen, Huey Lewis, and Smokey Robinson where the latter gives thanks to Jackson for his efforts to convince the singer to come up with songs better than ’I’m not going to take that’ as someone who ‘had the guts’ to approach the king of pop. Viewers will be delighted to see a little banter of the child first trained music ex-Ritchie’s food cravings to Dylan’s anxiousness about how much power he utilizes in singing out notes while sitting down writing the verses for the songs there. Who likes music docs like to be in a fairyland? The biographical documentary of music may be on its way out, but the trailer of The Greatest Night in Pop is short and witty enough to make sense for it.

You will say that they say you the world would remember if it is a disgrace where do I start do I start there by imagining yes, even Keith Richards does not more all the top musicians of that era five never gonna be from that studio in 1985 was it the greatest nite ever um I suppose who knows. No, however, why was wondering what about every single viewer of the movie of would be exceptionally sold the night in question turned out to be.
