Content on the digital sky and everything related to it is equally simple, Probably more than what is stated above. “This else goes with that ‘5 tips’” “Other than this, avoid these phrases at all costs ‘3 phrases’” “Last but not the least these 35 items are a must in every kitchen, amazon products.”

The movie that I would want to critique now, it is a very good idea to now approach this. Starts with a story about certain people who may have existed and who may have not existed in a city that looks fit enough to be real. Interpret it as you want, the film is absolutely designed for multiple meanings and interpretations.

The year is 1989, and the location is Naldera or perhaps another town in the Himachal region such as Mussoories which, if you’re from northern India, would be quite familiar to you as a summer holiday destination during your childhood. The very first thing you see is Dev. However, in the beginning, there is a sound that uses a voice that can be interpreted as the brushing of teeth against a dark backdrop. Raam Reddy would prefer that you become acquainted with Dev long before you are given the opportunity to take a peek at him on the screen. As the images start to become clearer, we see Dev rubbing what appears to be lotion or moisturizer on his shoulders and while this seems rather amusing for a male figure, until this one shot long, complex, and even complicated scene of dev moving out of the bathroom, coming out of the room, across the room to his workspace and finally outside to the fields most of the time, when all these ends, something rather unusual has happened that applying moisturizer on bare shoulders in this context has an entirely different meaning.

Co-writer Raam Reddy brings the plot to life in the film. The real-life experiences of Dev and Nandini, a couple residing in the mountains with their little son Juju, are both intriguing and relatable. Their daughter Vanya resides with her husband, but it is the holidays and the child is back home. In this aristocratic family, Dev’s wife is considered quite average; however, the patriarch has many lands, which may be of interest to the audience. “Oh yes, I have a family,” Raam says, adding that Dev grew up in the elite gated community, where British loyalists were once entrusted with protecting the orchard. “Please come along as I introduce you to Vandana and Deb’s family, everyone here is well-mannered, well-educated, and is cultured.” explains Raam, but while saying a little “maybe not now” Rau was talking about the head of the family, Deb. All difficulty was devotion itself, then as if to scare the audience by showing a binary of – To me, it’s fundamentally brain damage.

At the beginning of the film, right after the first clearance the branches of trees are set on fire, most people would expect a proper reaction but to then see this man simply dazed is extremely frightening. At last, he may have to deal with nemesis, although he has no idea how to conduct himself in a warfare like this.

For all his evolution as a character, there is absolutely no evidence as to where he learnt to deal and for that matter confront so much and perhaps that is the reason he is so random now. The movie drives home the point of how volatile Dev’s character can get at its most ruthless time and again. Dev as well helpless in the environment and the situation and makes a blunder after blunder. Yes, Manoj Bajpayee has been given an opportunity and he is damn good in Joram as Brenner. Somehow he has been able to unleash studies far too close together but as different from each other as Joram, Killer Soup and The Fable are, so too are the performances.

Dev’s wife Nandini also knows where her boundaries are and does not infringe on them either. It sings, then let it, it cooks, then so be it, it packs up and moves house, then that is what it must be. It is more of an obedient condition, but she understands the mystery of dev, and hence, Nandini knows better – Priyanka Bose, who plays Nandini, speaks as the name itself is celestial in its connotation and Priyanka Bose is blessed with an appealing look of a singer since she is like a place she’s wanted to be for a long time now.

The voice-over translates deepest feelings into words and the actor Deepak Dobriyal does a great job portraying them. He takes on the role of Mohan the Estate manager in the film. Dobriyal portraying Mohan is also a delight to watch because everyone can relate to feeling utterly useless in front of a person who is more gifted than them. Mohan the estate manager makes the film beautifully real and relatable since everyone has met a person who is fully consumed by devotion to their master much similar to how Mohan is with Dev. Dev’s portrayal of disappointment and disdain was perhaps the most artistic portrayal that struck me personally. Mohan’s realization that his life is more complicated than mere circumstances shows how human this character is keeping the audience in mind.

One may hear him say that these events have occurred thirty-five years ago and one wonders what would happen the moment they would quit the orchards, he believes he went and wrote a book and now at the time of the book’s launch and sitting in the middle of a warm room listening to excerpts being read by a candle making a small flame and soft music being played in the background.

The Fable has its flaws, the unresolved subplots that mostly trace looking for a monk were badly executed and the last fight sequence that used a Handycam also felt out of place. A line by Raam Reddy comes in here where he notes, ‘this film does give every single scene an invite to be filled in the blanks’, theories even he cannot understand at times such as, children were told about strange and extraordinary figures residing in mountains far away. It’s a film he’s created and the effect of the medium is apparent in both how the film has been worked on and its overexposure in the real world. It has been perfected and that’s the goal of the film, but the reality in front of you leaves you dazed and that chorus of magic realism adds to it. It’s 1989 and everything else is just background noise, the screen begins to shake, you watch the dust particles spin and fly across the frames and it becomes a whole new vibe.

The movie you see is a commentary on colonialism, suggesting that it is better to avoid forming empires, to begin with, as one-day empires burn and with it the society. You take a look and see yourself right next to Dev, surrounded by seven fireflies that swirl and hug your body. Together, the eight of you envelop the woman who sits around her as the movie you are seated in an empty cinema hall comes to its end.

Are we not led to the conclusion that dharma looks down upon whichever form of greed there is, and are not people reminded of their priorities? Greco-Buddhist theme that encourages entertainment in mind to nature, To tell us all in a blunt way, perhaps one of the many approaches with which to bear the flame in extreme sociopolitical conditions goes against authoritarianism. Is it, rather, just a stage for the cinematographer Sunil Borkar to create additional sets where the game takes place?
