The changing life of Anthony Miller as he talks about drug abuse with the help of Joshua John Miller in his book “The Exorcism” is shocking, to say the least. At the same time, the famous actor Russell Crowe has to deal with the difficult life of a priest who instead of being a demonic shepherd has to save the world. Here is where Russell, who performs the character of a shepherd deals with Adam Goldber’s Gonzo-style directing that he has to guide him as well. There is also the strange mushrooming of paranormal activities on the set of Crowe’s film, the place where he falls, and other forces that are influencing him. Does Miller in his quest to face his demons confront the set of demons that are rather cinematical in the sense that they are the foundation for the making of this movie?
When the word ex-lose comes out of the mouth of any actress or actor in any of the films, the first thought of the audience goes to the most popular of the list of horror movies called ‘the great exorcist’, that ever released more than 100 years ago. But this film does explain in the beginning that it encapsulates the witch’s bond plot which is also an astonishing movie but for us, there are also excellent thrillers that should be paid attention to.
There exists, nonetheless, an unequivocal and, arguably, tacit correlation between monstrosity and the movie, which is that this piece of cinema is a modern psychological suspense, and it is as captivating as it possibly can get.
The son of Jason Miller, who appeared as Father Karras in the movie `The Exorcist’, is Joshua John Miller. Furthermore, the principal photography of the movie ‘The Exorcist’ took place in Georgetown which is the location of the project Georgetown there is also a mention of this movie in this film.
The fact that the movie claims to be portraying the actual events when the movie ‘The Exorcist’ was filmed is an interesting aspect of this movie, and so is the fact that it allegedly tries to illustrate the strange events surrounding the filming of the cult classic in respect to Jason Miller. I find it hard to believe that some of the weird and well-known events that occurred in the 70’s movie set were not intentionally included in the production of this film. I hear him telling his kid that there are some tales that are worth sharing and that there is always the right time for this.
For a number of reasons, including those above, ‘The Exorcism’ Is more of a psycho-meta thriller than a horror movie. The film contains a few bizarre and somewhat unpleasant scenes, however, they cannot be considered terrifying to most people. Sure enough, there are a few earsplitting sounds that appear to be too loud, but that is a treat reserved for these types of films.
An actor rarely gets the opportunity to ‘save’ a character but thankfully the surrounding as well as the interpretation’s depth of Crowe in this movie is far better compared to his portrayal in ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’. Ryan Simpkins does everything in her power to accurately play the rebellious daughter who cares too much for her drunk dad and is bordering on insane herself. The same can be said for Adam Goldberg who gets some of the craziest director types for actors, it seems to me that he is a grabbing actor who cares about his material and not taking care of the actor.
It wouldn’t be an act of error to state that “The Exorcism” is one particular story and a movie that possesses magical images with overzealous efforts at making it the fifth type of a horror film, and while that may not be the case, the effort in doing so can be regarded as exemplary.
