Bikini Bottom gets a savior, thanks to Sandy Cheeks, these sound familiar? Of course, they do! They are depicted in this SpongeBob SquarePants movie, which was previously released in the years 2004, 2015, and 2021 but misses the theatrics that Porifera admires, looking on television through 300 of the episodes. If this piques your interest, there are some quite intriguing modifications. In contrast with other Sponge Bob Movies, the supporting character for the film narrates, instead of the iconic supporting character for the movie. As opposed to the stereotypical image of all rub art, the character combines streaming platforms. This will also be the one who will have to bear the hefty responsibility of treating other movie lovers, for months and before the release of the movie, leak it through social media forums.
In the title song, Texa, once a marine biologist, leads the way alongside Sandy, a squirrel voiced by Carolyn Lawrence, while the audience is granted a glimpse of half of Sparky, also known as Sponge Bob and voiced by Tom Kenny. Sponge Bob can be seen next to Sandy while they both try to count how many of their friends are skateboarding in ‘skateboard town’ bikini bottom and several other locations that resemble the remnants of the sea. Sandy elucidates that the skateboarder is her supervisor and blames the individual for the nonsense seen. Under the supervision of Sue Nahmee voiced by Wanda Sykes, the laboratory went from a previously respectable research facility to a waterpark. It is evident that Nahmee is planning something else concerning the children’s market, toy prototypes. For that purpose, she comes to assist her friends, voiced by Craig Robinson, Johnny Knoxville, and Grey Delisle, leaving her family behind.
In 1999, viewers were introduced to SpongeBob SquarePants, and ever since the show has gained immense popularity all around the world. Although the show was primarily targeted toward kids in the age group of 2-11 years now the average audience of the show is blasting through the mid-30s. With the years passing, the show has entirely remained fixated on young children which has left a fair share of fans quite disappointed. The boiling question for all these fans remains the same, how do you explain the canonical, magical era of SpongeBob without losing sight of the dollar bin curse of ‘modern’ banana boys? For all the people who claim to be true SpongeBob fans, accepting the new season can be extremely difficult. But there is no question that Sponge Bob Square pants do possess an awful lot of warmth and nostalgia. In the 2004 edition of SpongeBob SquarePants, the movie is a franchise favorite for a reason. Any sane individual would vouch that the Foodie Pirate or the Pizza Hut commercial film is far more entertaining than Matt Barry’s terribly dubbed Sponge on the Run.
Prior to the premiere of The Sandy Cheeks Movie, the frantic frustration found midst those who loved the movie and those who hated it, was calmed as a result of the news marketing about it. It does, after all, enable those eager to show how a movie can not be made, to showcase their incomplete sampling. The most inflexible adversaries to the animation locating faults with the show will say that this is the least anthropomorphic feature that has ever been unleashed into the world. Not by a long shot. But let’s not kid ourselves, still, this is quite terrible after all.
This sentiment is validated and to some degree explained by Tom Stern’s (Freaked) and Kaz’s (Phineas and Ferb) scripts. The screenwriters do manage to achieve a number of endearing episodes and are able to unwittingly garner a few good laughs while introducing Sandy Cheek’s family. Although she has retired from the family circus, the Cheeks are still very encouraging of Sandy’s scientific pursuits which is very sweet and humane in the overly violent world of cartoons. Furthermore, one of the strongest aspects of the film is the choice of Knoxville to play the role of Sandy’s brother, Randy. The things that were primarily connected with hybrid animation, although a long way from that kind of hybrid animation which was displayed in the first two films, were still quite pleasurable to the eye.
The rest, on the other hand, is just a lackluster profession. Loading the segments with the citizens of Bikini Bottom was poorly edited and horrendous jokes were poorly made. The human characters in the film would do little in the way of bettering things. Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, and another Matty Cardinal, for example, are but one of her dominating hands. Sykes’s overacting is evident but it goes to show how monotonous the villain is. So rather than an evil businesswoman, a perfect celebrity has more of George Lopez’s attributes than a Sykes type who went overboard with the mockery in Shark Boy and Lava Girl.
Everything comes together in the big finale which is the part everyone has been waiting for and this is the worst segment of the movie. It is a complete mess with the characters, the animation and the effects go further downhill, and the reference to Sharkboy and Lavagirl goes to an entirely new level of ridiculousness. Surely, one cannot account for the viewers who were made to sit through unused footage of the film that only serves to make the watched version of the film look strained. Once more, since they are genuine, this is still a Sponge Bob movie, unfortunately, we do have to witness Sandy depart from the important part of the movie relatively soon.
Saving Bikini Bottom is a prime example of how Nickelodeon intends to make as many movies with SpongeBob as they can with Marvel. Spongebob movie plankton the movie and the SpongeBob movie enquire the Squarepants all slated for 2025 are just the tip of the iceberg. And of course, these are not good omens for what the future has in store for us.
