Although Judd Apatow has undeniably brought forth films targeted towards the teenage demographic, Peter Farrelly, along with his brother Bobby, has managed to rewrite history as they focus on a more satirical and sarcastic form of humor in their films. Farrelly’s work made the blunt and dry jokes evident in films such as “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dumb and Dumber” have successfully earned extreme success. Insensitive humor however is not always successful as seen in “Movie 43”, Farrelly’s cinematic blunder which led to the end of his career in the film industry. Being involved with more serious projects such as ‘Green Book’ and ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever’ however, proved to be his saving grace. He has now moved back to amoral and unfunny comedies as seen in his most recent work ‘Ricky Stanicky’.

To put it mildly, Ricky Stanicky isn’t a film one wishes to get excited about. It most certainly doesn’t facilitate the viewer in reminiscing the decade of the nineties, nor does it stir any pleasant emotions or memories associated with that time. In essence, the film is a subpar combination of various other low-budget comedies, and yet again, does not introduce anything new in the genre.

This was not the case with this particular movie though, as Stanick Ricky: Stanick, over the course of writing out the screenplay with five other writers, also provides a sense of credibility to the work. Now of course it can’t be solely placed on one guy for not having a good movie overall.

However, during the first phase of the movie, he is not the main character of the film and viewers are better off not knowing much about him because the fundamental purpose of the movie stems from him. He is the unadulterated and raw blend of quintessential American charm and a sense of excessive confidence, or as he would call it contrition. Ricky Stanicky’s character is a representation of shame: it is hysterical and ugly at the same time.

Ricky is, after all the years, the one who gets blamed for the petty crimes and also the bad decisions. The trio out of the three which is Dean, JT and Wes in their credit sequence android where they also back up their fame as the resident why would a wife want to leave their family? By pointing fingers at Ricky the trio are allowed to go on outings which is against family life in that it involves world lavish activities that are even fun to partake in such as going to concerts. But not any more or not during the day for that purpose at least, they emphasize the idea that it is fun to be Ricky Stanicky’s. Once they are more than sufficiently done with the makeup up they set out to visit with a loser actor Rod whom they hired to pretend as Ricky before their family to encourage them to stop being alcohol dependent actors. Socialistic attack on the film industry, to make it harder to find someone willing to put money into it. Movies take a backseat as the wildness increases, and so does the drama, the engaging in views on women or saying racist comments test their muscles of wits.

One could feel bad for Will, who had a role somewhat similar to a male model or mannequin when he was busy with a meeting between Stanowski and Dean. While this may seem entertaining, it isn’t. The movie “Ricky Stanicky” was smack with comedy after comedy, although it may not have the inclination to be so. Such juvenile perspectives is rather too straight, to say the least. All it focused on was the usual overused exaggeration of comical effects that very rarely ever made sense. And even if they did, the jokes were the most ridiculous ones. In the Boardroom he had everything, above all the Khaki pants and a cap and the meeting with William H. Macy, but that was only until Dean’s and JT’s foot meeting was covered with romance in the air.

So, for starters, the thought of Brazilian sex is hilarious itself, so let’s say this Jeff Ross is some comic rabbi who smokes k and misses the bris thanks to that, and as a side effect, he could never finish what he was supposed to do. And in the specific case of the director of the ‘Green Book’, for instance, he dramatically narrowed the character of the only real black in the group’s cast – Wes is a weed-crinkled bum – searching for work while Dean and JT are white characters are engaged in gossiping about their employment. This may serve as an amusing thing for some, however, I am definitely not one of them.

Efron and Cena seem calm and composed when put in tough situations and improvise, and in that manner, Efron is able to cast Dean in this new light. While in the middle of the plot if we were to call Dean a broken character Efron gets away with it because let’s be honest, he is Dean, the emo former has great potential. A layer further, when Rod, Dean’s alter ego spells Ricky, and beats up Dean’s friends, he sees himself as a victim. While following the plot other characters also go through changes, around the plot’s center Rod’s girlfriend appears, and making things more complex.

It does compel him to mature more than a bit within Efron’s interpretation of an aspect of the maturity Peter directs in some of Farrelly’s best comedies.

So, as far as Cena is concerned, his Rod role is much more like the usual method actor character, Efron is addicted to perfectly normal imitations of rock stars and their respectful songsabers in Rough Night to stale jokes and strangers or their jokes during the previous day or working with gina over the last day like Senhor Stylist Engenheiro who is trying to overcome Cancer with Bono in different countries. This is all sandwiched between what can only be referred to as scripts. Cena, for example, takes a somewhat hazy view of it, incorporating elements of self-delusion into it, primarily for the benefit of other actors in this film claiming, in strong terms, that he is the most naturally gifted one in the cast, whose every pronouncement is delivered in a slightly deadpan voice although so much else is muddled and infiltrated in the dialogue.

To an individual such as Jerry, there are zany notions and concepts such as ‘Hitmen are chasing after Cena’ while he himself is dressed in Britney Spears attire, or Efron’s divas. If you can’t convince Rod that it’s time to stop impersonating Ricky. Jose also has apps on his smartphone that make watching any segment for a few seconds tolerable He doesn’t particularly anticipate rhythm or timing from a film. But there is a lot of character smudging and general chatting over the better parts of the film, even jokes lose their spark after a good ten attempts at them hoping the audience would; laugh along. To sum it up, ‘Ricky Stanicky’ is a cringy film and a waste of time. Most of the clips and content seem average.

It teaches things I believe are realistic and appropriate to an individual who is a child and is rarely said – some of the childhood ambitions should remain where they belong within the pages of history.
