Be sure not to confuse Prey with the Predator movie or the 2007 movie in which a family on a holiday is stalked by a pack of lions or any other such action slasher movie. This Prey, however, is about a pair of American Missionaries that include Andrew and Sue who are stationed at a cross village in Africa. Andrew is played by Ryan Philippe and Sue is by Mena Suvari.
This is, perhaps, the worst day of Andrew’s life. He is a doctor and a boy died during surgery because he was promised some medical supplies that never reached him. But it gets worse when he starts realizing the fact that his wife Sue and he have to evacuate from the location as they are in threat as the Boko Haram soldiers are approaching their village and they have received orders to leave the location.
In the meantime, Grun (Emile Hirsch, Son, The Darkest Hour) is set to fly Tyler (Dylan Flashner, Asking For It, Hot Seat), Max’s friends (Tristan Thompson, The Tutor, Mending the Line), Chrissy (Michaela Sasner, Deltopis, Natural Disasters) and their guide Thabo (Jeremy Tardy, Bone Tomahawk, Voodoo Macbeth) a little out of the area. One may imagine that they are in bad shape and will just risk getting into the plane which doesn’t seem to be the best for non-commercial activities. It did not turn out to be such a selection in any case. The aircraft runs into difficulty in the Kalahari wildlife reserve the reason why the movie was initially titled Kgalagadi. The reserve is an overgrown habitat of animals from lions, hyenas, leopards and so on and on to expose the innocent helpless victims to both the extreme to starving animals.
Mukunda Michael Dewil opened the movie with two teams on opposing sides fully armed to complete the task of interpretation, the task in question having an entirely different plot. The camera is conveniently pointed elsewhere when the lion attacks, which is not a great thing either. We do not expect such a head start to the movie as directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil.
And about this, of course not, for then this there is less, until off screen another lion as we hear, if at least this one, gets copped by a viper. Most people do just walk around, yap a lot and then the ensuing dramatic crescendo is a tad predictable, in that it was Hirsch’s character who was too busy with ivory smuggling to supervise the delivery schedule resulting in the nonshipment of supplies to the village.
Alas, the most part of Prey does the horrible job of letting you recall the characters you do not like the way splinters do, and more often than not they are cigars whose ends are most likely running to be lit first. Even while watching the movie and even our character who at that time is being pursued by a lion had his lips clasped so tightly that one would not even attempt to fathom whether he has a parent, and much more so a God to protect him. This was a KFC bucket of wings for all three of them every time the extremist army would reach such levels of demoralization inviting them to kill everyone.
Unfortunately, this is still an additional half an hour for a few more cliches, fellow resign It’s another boring day. To begin with, who could be those who never tie up the prisoners, and who would expect people to be shooting now that the right time has come to snatch a straw. Oh, where is the M going to the boat so now the peacekeeping soldier has to kill people instead of protecting them. Clichés again came back where they were waiting for a postcard from the writers expecting a Holiday to rest.
But even though I, never in my life have had cruelty depicted towards animals, thought otherwise Nope they are untouchable! A pun not intended, but when I saw that the Prey used real lions instead of CGI lions, I was at least looking forward to a few Tamer cats versus stuntman scenes. Rather, nearly all of the animal attacks use this trick except the unaided mannequins, that is men acting as cats and dogs and plenty of off screen footage of large cats. Snakes and scorpions are the only two animals who could not even get a scene with any actor. Of course, it is an animal attack film but there are no animal attacks.
There’s an old saying. Every minute has a new sucker. In full compliance with the prompt, there is no such thing as a film that can be called pessimistic, disappointing, or awful and this one can disappoint you with an ending. Hell, even the viewers who loved the film, including me, will keep wondering why was there no confrontation scene. Given that there are a pair of missionaries in the picture, One never saw Michaels versus Lion climax, I mean. Not being a specially adapted beast, one is forced to describe the anticlimactic denouement the film manages by refusing to approach “extremely would be kind of, however, one does consider this. Instead, it was a rather self produced film by Barnum Picture Company. It points to a ready consumer waiting to be served. They have simply anticipated their market audience.
