Thank you, folks, for remembering Kevin Spacey. Ever since the production of American Beauty and LA Confidential became embroiled in sexual assault allegations back in 2017, the actor has not stepped on screen for quite a while. And it’s not a sense of ‘sorry, not worth the fuss’, as I clearly explain below, since he was I guess now rightfully exonerated from those accusations.
While the actor was exonerated, I guess even by Unlimited Sex he would have not had much trouble getting re-integrated into what I think is America’s prime corpus of film production. That is not to say, however, that he has not acted at all. He is back with a vengeance, after doing the Italian picture The Man Who Drew God, doing voice acting for British India dubbedControl. Alongside these strong titles, he hasn’t performed in any major studio movie since Billionaire Boys Club in 2018.
This is what I consider his best performance of all time. This is his best during the dose of role addiction where he works as a hired killer with the fictional name, Peter Five Eight, in a thriller film that can now be watched online.* He is the main character in the plot where he, alongside Jet Jandreau, who is a construction agent, eliminates Sam Jandr. Jandreau is tantalizingly beautiful, with something far more terrifying and disgusting hidden underneath the guise.
In the movie, Sam is being employed by Lock who is portrayed by Jake Weber. Lock is a widower, eager to see Sam dead due to unspecified reasons but does she die? Not telling! But do check this movie: Black and check how this blackened galaxy in which Sam along with the rest of the cast evolves. Given these changes, however, they are somehow equal to the chances of Sam managing to survive like every self-plan of cunning peasants. This is probably one of those movies that are so unlikely to happen, people will always have this on their top 10 best movies of Kevin Spacey. This is not going to happen anyway.
If one wishes to witness celibate characters in a movie all they should do is switch on a DVD of a Spacey flick and they will not be disappointed. If Kevin Spacey is performing in this flick, many actors say, it has a tendency to be in contention for one of the best movies starring him. These days, yes, it feels as if he has been missing for a long, resulting in every movie he is a part of creating a buzz only to see if he still has that magic in his presence.
I’m glad to note that Spacey does quite a good job in that film. Untamed with charm, Spacey manifests the rugged hitman with no room for pleasantries who is just like Underwood in House Of Cards. In one of the overly exciting scenes which seems out of place from the rest of the movie, he even showcases his dancing and singing abilities as if remembering the character he portrayed in the movie Beyond the Sea made in 2004.
Spacey, in case he is not the one having played in the movie, then such a movie definitely most probably did not go to grabs. He may not even give an amazing show, but his role of is allowed some excellent lines which is not the case for his more anonymous fellows who have almost nothing to do.
The assassin character is known as Peter Five Eight, and this is displayed in one of the last scenes of the film and the character itself was the reason the film was named like that. Additionally, it does quote from the Bible, specifically from the First Epistle of Peter Chapter 5 Verse 8 where it reads: “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
But who or what is this ‘roaring lion’? Almost everything Peter does is such (at one point it is quite literally the case) but he admits during one of the scenes that he is also a man “born of the fall”, which may be not comfortably euphemistic about Spacey’s status as a once highly wanted Los Angeles actor than abused.
Peter five eight is perfect for all the bad movie lovers out there
It’s a Costra Nostra film in which Spacey would not have performed even close to his filming times, especially in this movie, because of his shift with society and abuse, it seems more than absurd for such an actor to shoot a lower-class crime movie. To his shock, he has been placed in such a cheap crime flick.
However, due to the controversy that led to the fall of his empire, Spacey is currently an in-demand actor more than willing to star in even the most obscure of pictures to help revive his career.
Spacey has been a favorite actor of the director for quite a bit but in recent years not sure it is a blessing that Spacey was given a role in Peter Five Eight by its director Michael Zaiko Hall. Yes, it is possible that Hall is pursuing Spacey for the purposes of his film, which is possible that he has not so much chance to prove that such interest in this film was made without Spacey, the one from Once Upon a Time in America.
Hall’s direction in the film is far too reasonable for any purpose in or for. But apart from Spacey, he does not boast of many good actors, so his film has only a minimal chance of ever being termed ‘good’, and even fewer of being in between. The only actors that are known aside from Jake Weber and Rebecca DeMornay are wannabe B movie actors, or at least in my opinion are nonprofessionals given their performing skills.
When it comes to delivering a line, deeming the actors as wooden and cold is an insult because it is a generous statement on its own. Jess Jandreau, the lead actress on the other hand, does put in effort to convey some emotion and does act whereas the rest of the cast have their mouths pasted shut in a 1940s flick.
In comparison to the other elements that the film has to offer, the lack of a coherent story is the least surprising. Due to this, most definitely there are major plot holes in the film, and it goes without saying that the editing was poorly done. But the movie could have reached heights if the script hadn’t been ruined by the director.
Even the worst films have fans and this movie appeals to fans of Troll 2 and The Room. There are multiple scenes where the writing and direction were clearly done for a laugh. In one of the cabin scenes where the actors are filled with gas and in a dry and lifeless manner shout ‘gas’ every three lines makes them run out of the script and calmly walk off the screen.
Summary
Peter Five Eight is not exactly what one would describe as a ‘work of art.’ However, if one is looking for a good laugh out of the film’s shortcomings, then this might be the best option. The only redeeming role for Kevin Spacey, there’s a chance he’ll never get in his career and his co-stars. I am interested in knowing how long will this Spacey guy wait to be offered a better script.
