LIFE OF BELLE, the new movie releasing this May 17, is a movie slated for tentative release on Screambox. It narrates the events that surround the case of a missing child using actual footage. The movie draws some inspiration from the Paranormal Activity and Skinamarink.
While it does contain elements such as the children, Skinamarink is nowhere close to Life Of Belle in terms of how it is presented. Screambox does somewhat run the risk of being Paranormal Activity as well but I do foresee it being a lot better than what it is compared. It was a good movie, but other people trying to follow suit and recreate it was the last thing I wanted to see.
Life of Belle is based on Family themes and Drama which is also the core aspect of Shawn Robinsons targeting in the show. Robinson gives the last names of the petite cast members (Father and Mother) the same as his own. The other possibility is that the Robinsons are one way of showcasing a family with unique skills or it is the hardest coincidence to exist. I assume it is the last.
This film can be categorized as a found footage horror film as well due to the fact that it depicts the life of an entire family after a daughter of the household decides to open a YouTube channel just as the father is about to leave for a business trip and hands her a camera. While the husband is away on a business trip, the wife in this case decides to abandon her therapy sessions. She is known to have nightmares that might be a little too realistic but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Slowly it feels as if she calls everything in the house, including food as nonedible and bans her children from eating depicting a cycle of abuse.
So now we are left with the discomforting image of children, Belle and Link who try to deal with the erratic behavior of their mother when all they want to do is be children. You can see the kids playing in the middle of the chaos of their house being torn apart. This is then perfectly able to show how the film ‘The Florida Project’ could have much darker themes than it already possesses.
+ This film does have some shocking sequences, I’ll give it credit for that. There is also an explanation as to why Belle and Link’s mother turns deranged when she quits taking her medicine. During her nighttime rants, she would go from screaming at the top of her lungs to berating her children along with throwing food across the house. Generally speaking, she was the epitome of a horror movie villain in a child’s eyes.
Still, I believe parents who abuse or are unhinged tend to put children who display ‘love’ towards them like Link and Belle in authority to which they need pity. Not everyone is compelled to undergo such trauma, though. It gets nasty for some people. There were times when I wanted to leap into my laptop and shove those defenseless children beneath my wing and protect them.
To conclude, this movie is about emotions, as such emotional manipulation is a common occurrence, and if there are any controversial elements in the film I would argue it’s economic politics that get tackled. And as I previously mentioned, during the movie the mother’s hostility escalates endlessly so watching it can get uncomfortable.
It was considered by the writer and director Shawn Robinson not to add another twenty minutes to the film, thus extending the running time to an hour and a half as exists. There have been many cases where one-hour movies are over-extended to ninety minutes. It was encouraging in this instance that this particular event did not take place. It really takes an able and up-and-coming talent to realize that you do not do that.
I really do not see the sense in being informed what the outcome is likely to be in advance such as being shown a scene from a police officer walking into a house and finding the bodies of dead family members while the film has only begun. To be brutally honest, which is my preferred style of reviewing, that was something I believe I could have done without. What was the point of divulging how something was going to end in any event? To some extent, this was the kind of thing that I wanted to watch, and was not actually prepared to be told how it was going to be for most people in the film.
I greatly appreciate the reasons why any found footage film is made in a certain way, and as for this one it is quite obvious that the inside of the film is something like ”This is how we search for Belle,” Well, it would have been more reasonable for me to just begin the film from the angle of the Belle’s camera so that the ending could remain in the first place.
This Down Is An Enormous Spoiler For The Final Of LIFE OF BELLE, So Jump Directly To The Overall segments. The endings are amazing and everyone is anticipating it. Would you agree? So, here we go it appears, within sixty-eight minutes, that a tragedy is unfolding before us with the mother who is not befitting, however, due to some baffling mental problem such as schizophrenia or bipolar temperament, is unable to look after her children, and just when the storyline progresses close to the wow scene where the climax comes in with all its dramatic excitement. Just a second instead there is something out of this world in the whole scenario! And this indeed was a great, great disappointment for me.
This commons along with the film of the father-mother caring and wondering if the other parent will elope, did engage me. The way in which it was directed and presented, made for a complete read. Then, however, TV shows and then films completely shifted their disillusionment did occur. Filme has the existence of mental issues existing for at least this arc. But as stated above, that was not the case. Keeping this for the end goals of the film has weak effects to spoil means to spoil.
The ending of Life Of Belle didn’t seem that impressive to me, but the movie itself was fairly enjoyable. It had some great emotional scenes. I can say that the Robinson family has done quite a good job, despite a lack of really strong scripts at times. What I can recommend for sure, but the ending sorry, I didn’t like it at all.
