If you’ve ever seen a horror movie, let’s say Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then you may understand the Italian cinema horror period is a thing of the past. The two directors Roberto de Feo the film’s writer, and Paolo Strippoli, the film’s director, had no intention of making themselves unique or original. It was quite a remarkable approach on their part to grab ideas from the best horrors of the last half a century. In addition to A Classic Horror Story, viewers will notice American horror classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cabin In The Woods, The Blair Witch Project, and Midsommar. But the real question is whether the combination of these components works.

A group of five decides to road trip through Italy in a camper. One such character, Elise (Matilda Anna Ingrid Lutz), a family friend, is traveling to her family home for another abortion, a young couple, who wishes to elope a somewhat uneventful doctor and a film direction student, who happens to be driving the camper. The five get into a car accident while swerving to miss a dead animal on a road one night in Italy.

The next morning, they are surprised to see that the cabin is located in the middle of a dense forest where instead of a road they are referring to the area as a cabin in the woods. They successfully break into the baba’s hut after midnight. Fabrizio, a character who is portrayed as a film student in the drama, gets double disturbed by the bizarre images which are big sized and praise terrible folk stories. But more important is the fact that a frightened woman with no tongue is discovered and it is without doubt that the death druids are going to kill all these people soon.

I would like to begin with a few of the more to the point aspects of the story that I presumed. And let me assure you, there is more than enough blood and gore, do not worry. Even a hardcore freak like myself has felt somewhat appalled at some of the scenes. The Classic Horror Story sheds a short dull period of the story and I have no complaints concerning the cinematography (though the red colors which depict danger appear to be a borrowed idea gone wrong on directed by M. Night Shyamalan and people like him).

However, combining the plots of approximately five unimpressive film samples tends to make the final product one chaotic mess, this hodgepodge results in a foul aftertaste. It was a feeling that I struggled to completely shake off, towards the end of the film, the screenplay writers exhausted their ideas and thoughts. In addition, the piling of twists one after another bore an M Night Shyamalan style and does not assist the case either. When you use them too much, which is what happens in the film, you become indifferent to the story’s development.

What is even more annoying than all the above is the fact that for an hour and a half, you have to suffer for rather pathetic characters. Some rather unattractive actors are doing nasty things, and you have to watch them. Quite oddly, Elise, the protagonist doesn’t do anything else but whine and cry. And when she does manage to sufficiently escalate the conflict, it is so unanticipated, that one is left questioning its plausibility. Mark played by Will Merrick is an exasperatingly arrogant English boyfriend, and the Italian girlfriend is just plain dull. Mark Angel is quite stiff and does very much appeal to the rest. Fabrizio is such a performer to be a nuisance rapidly.

In all honesty, I had some relief when all of them were dead.

Respectfully, do not expect the actors to be too much help and while they can be thanked I think it is a little unreasonable due to the author’s poor script and dull characters. Generally speaking, A Classic Horror Story has a fatigue that is too self inflicted, and as usual, I thought of the movie Nobody Sleeps In The Woods Tonight, It was the first Polish slasher of last year which takes a great deal of inspiration from the eighties films and series. But, in that picture, August managed to have a storyline along with amusing deaths that include a slew of weird supplementary characters, it was hilarious, to say the least. Unfortunately, for us de Feo and Strippoli have lost their sense of humor I mean completely, Have you seen the previous lines I assume you read them now what did you see when the term flaccid phallus was first used in this review, when the first joke was made, this was when the film was 57 minutes in, I won’t even begin to explain how insulted I am. It is quite difficult to explain why one would start and end the film with a single joke, they have lost the plot.
