GHOST: Rite Here Rite Now (2024)

Ghost’s first feature film Rite Here Rite Now, is likely to live in the memories of its fans as it will be able to represent everything that the band was trying to convey. They were all together during the weekend together and went to see the film at cinemas across the globe.

The feature is constructed using the footage of these two days which include the concert, starting from the entering of the band to the venue till the band can be seen heading for the stage to get applause. The intro of Imperium is played and as the curtains from the stage are drawn the flash, Kaisarion and the ghouls rush to the front when the stage is set. An encore from the other superstars is performed, which occurs a few seconds after the appearance of Papa Emeritus IV the one figure that all the audience worships, without asking any questions or doubt.

At the start of the concert, much like the latest album of the band, Impera, which many people claim as the finest work they have accomplished, however, whilst they do not need to progress anywhere, it is in their transition to “Rats” where the inside of the stadium gets even more excited. 15000 people sing along to the Prequelle song with the fans moving to the next song Faith.

Right from its inception, the movie depicts the backstage, which is seamlessly cut away from the rest of the segments. Which are depicted to push the story forward of the character Papa Emeritus IV and which lore regarding the magic on stage is provided. The church that lay disorganized makes sense as the clergy would see it along with what could be their after hours room. Papa receives assistance for costume cutouts in this area and talks to Sister Imperator (his mother) and, of course, Ghost Papa II Nihil (his father).

Cardi, which is how he wants to be called, does not feel like he is about to finish the performance for he feels that he is weakening. While in the flight case during the transfer in the building, the ghost of Nihil is trying to talk sense into him.

As the performance continues, part of the babushka’s vocals can now be heard coming from further inside the auditorium and from behind the stage with two female cellists and one male pianist dressed in black. I have never before witnessed such a coordinated performance of the song If You Have Ghosts, and I am afraid this is one of those exotic elements. Then we observe him later hopelessly in a Rocky advert, moving in a sea of kimonos and boxing gloves, removed servants put him on and then walk him back to the catwalk as though he were Rocky Balboa moving with the gait of a lout.

Other songs in collaboration are Skeleton Dancers with Twenties which are followed by Year Zero, He Is instrumental Miasma, in which Nihil awakens from sleep because of a sax solo.

However, it seems that Papa is ready to drop everything in his encore and the canceling almost feels as if it has cemented the end, in the spine-chilling Kiss The Goat the rather savage Dance Macabre, and the ever pleasing Square Hammer all deliver a flawless climax to what can only be described as a stunning concert.

Nonetheless, the film does not end there Papa casually takes off in a hot air ball and then waves to Sister Imperator as if that is an entirely normal thing to do. As for Paps, he seemingly comes to terms with his history and attempts to piece together his existence, there vaguely exists an individual uttering the name of a twin before the death of Sister Imperator, and in turn, this plunges Papa Emeritus IV into sorrow lived deep within him.

Nihil and Sister Imperator’s ghost like figures themed the final part of the storyline and this is when Papa had almost been ready to be elevated in the clergy and was now granted the title of Father Imperator, thus, we are left itching with eagerness to see who will be the new member to the band. Now what follows in the Ghost storyline is anyone’s guess, but there is no dissent that it is absolutely highly exciting.

Ghost has done a commendable job at stepping out of its comfort zone with its concert The Imperator, which has finally made its way onto the big screen. Still, something that would fit them perfectly within the cinematic world would be the likes of Spinal Tapy or The Foo Fighters ‘Studio 666’.
