I understand what you are going through. Filling the world’s heart with soulless content is something that will take time, and with that Time, seeking a significant other is, to say the least, a hassle. For this reason, the idea of soulmate tests is somewhat clear, though rather cliché. In All of you, Bridges poses an interesting task: Let’s imagine only for a second that people are able to choose the partners they want and then choose what they define as love: what happens next? The film stars Imogen Poots and Brett Goldstein. They acted as once again love birds who were willing to experience romance to the entire world, in an unorthodox due to the absurd script that was accompanied with amusing lines and jokes directed by William Bridges and Gold stern, who co wrote the film with Bridges. What they allegedly shot soared, but at the end it does not even reach a toe over the mythical balls bar, no matter how many times it is said to be a romance based film. At this stage the film ceases to be enjoyable and tolerable.
This is also true of intelligent eye scan because all of you starts what the viewers expect story wise and what the development of the narrative would be. In the dystopian world that Laura and Simon lives in, not looking for a partner is a choice but an undesirable one. For tens of millions, marriage has become much difficult for some of the best friends of Simon (Goldstein) and Laura (Poots) after she tries to become married to Lukas (Steven Cree) who is set to take over Simon’s role in her life. As time goes on and episode after episode turns, it is quite incredulous to the viewer that Simon brought all of his wives in a single introduction. Further on, as time passes, Simon does fall for other women. And he starts dwelling on his affection to women like Zaw Ashton and Jenna Coleman.
First, it is quite safe to add that the two protagonists in All of you do very well actually. While their on screen roles A hilarious presentation immersion was totally exasperating and somewhat intrusive for me and Simon’s portrayal of different resoluteness and Laura’s capricious polyamorous’ was equally convincing. The film does justice best when Simon is able to get Laura giggling and that is most of the leads’ body chemistry. Simon’s annoying yet funny antics as well as Poots’ laugh are among the cutest things to happen in the film.
Potts’s characterization of Laura is precisely the kind of performance which is particularly stunning because at times the character can be a total mess, but at the same time, one can be disappointed with her when she so blatantly tries to mess up her life in the search of love. This also makes one puzzle out one of many rather distressingly obvious contradictions within the narrative of All of You. Only through the characterization of Laura can one understand precisely the stakes in the narrative, in the context of her battling with herself mostly across the entire film. Therefore, the farther the film moves, the worse impression one has about Laura since all the problems she experiences are the results of her own actions.
This divorce definitely sounds shocking, but considering the fact that they do have a daughter, it automatically gets really complex. So, judging by how painful and distressing a divorce could be or even a marriage, it does start to make sense. And this also means that the daughter does have an age, and assuming the parents do lose all sense of control, divorce in this case would, with the degree of probability equal to one, be normalized. In one way, everything comes full circle if we consider when she claims that regardless of placing great belief in soulmate tests, such movies take a high toll on the chance of being married which in our original assumption fulfills the requirement that our focal character did not suffer any pain due to the divorce.
However, all these wishful comments stem from the misconception that the film has a clear visualization of the soulmate test concept without any hints being given towards it. Excluding the marketing of female physical attributes that are over emphasized, a clear explanation of what qualifies under the soulmate test is not even presented. Memes that suggest all this is scientifically verified in one form or another, but what scientific method is employed? Mate forming? Someone will over argue that behind test of soul mates, all this “science” is not even needed, well, it is somewhat important, but in this case, we should pay attention to the other parts of the structure, more precisely to the love story of Simon and Laura. Sci fi elements, especially those that are purported purely imaginary, ought to be used with caution so as not to put a winding road in a narrative that could have easily been linear.
Besides, the mythical notion that finding the perfect partner or falling in love at first sight is an unattainable fantasy can be dispelled by turning any of the others who qualify as they can date and marry as many people as they wish. The so called, soul mate test raises the ante and brings in additional complexity to the film, much to people’s amazement. The same loose concept comes into play with the soulmate test which loosely explains the rationale as to why the plot of the film Reef 2 is set in the not so distant future. It goes without saying that Ben’s matter of implanting advanced technology in two’s eye to assess compatibility with him greatly increases dramatic effect. Such devices, and even the very talk of them, are not in the picture and the only thing that marks the epoch of the film are thumb print scanners and part of the automobile. Apparently, this particular show, Black mirror, which William Bridges wrote for, comes to him with regard to distant science fiction, obviously with admirable talent which combines the desire and the need for remote science fiction.
William Bridges does send a lot of mixed messages since All of You would have been a lot better had it either been a straight up a gothic much like Black Mirror or had no science fiction elements in it at all.
In short, All of You is a romance film sprinkled with love and beautiful moments in which anything resembling a real conflict is inserted into the story quite abruptly. Still, I find it quite romantic to pair Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots (even when their characters are at their cringe worst the scenes are pretty wince inducing) that is the case even with the William Bridges and Goldstein who brought the screenplay at such times that it was never expected. Apart from the few bits of gentle funny moments and by now quite some MDMA jokes, All of You perhaps needed to not over saturate with T&V regards but moving away from that was still a enjoyable light watch thanks to the actors and the feeling of engagement it had.
