Tim Travers & the Time Travelers Paradox (2024)

Stimson Snead had the guts to produce such a ridiculous concept called Nicholas Loba. This unusual fusion of science fiction and comedy indeed contains some novel ideas. Regrettably, the jokes almost never work, making a 110-minute-long movie quite an excruciating experience.

Samuel Dunning plays Tim Timothy who is presented as a scientist who invented a machine that lets him only go back in time for a minute he steps out of. Smoothly, every time he steps out of the time capsule, he meets himself, the first time he uses the machine, it is him as well that steps by the machine, at the same time melded in the vision of another. Guess what. Tim ever got to travel there? Absolutely not. He was so much more immersed attention in that became captivated with shooting himself through time.

However, since Tim understands that he is the most intelligent individual in the world at this point, he shifts his strategy and despises the idea of saving multiple Tims where Tim-17 and Tim-26 were named after their Greek alphabet counterparts blurted out them. There is more, you have Alpha Tim who is the first of his kind but there is also a Beta Tim, Delta Tim, and whatever else one could think up.

The movie gets quite technical rather quickly, and as someone who has never performed well in science, I did my best to feign understanding of the terms. This is the first and most essential aspect that I will discuss. What motivates Tim to take that step remains unclear, however,r he appears on a right-wing talk show hosted by obnoxious James Bunratty, who is portrayed by Joel McHale.

Tim makes fun of James and his supporters, and this delights producer Delilah to the extent that she agrees to go out with him. Tim’s mess-ups on the date and his attempts at being a gentleman provide amusement, but there is a tantalizing build-up. At this point, Tim and Delilah are at his abandoned factory laboratory and Doe begins to view him as more than just a rightwing talk show styled in the fashion of a wacko, but rather as someone quite terrifying.

Next, there are a lot of scenes of the Tims trying to solve a problem but also getting distracted because, just like us, they are aware of the configuration of the room a room full of themselves. It is astounding how all the effects of having quite a few Tims in a single frame, almost always more than one, mingling with each other have been well achieved. The effects get a bit dodgy later in the film when Michal “the agent” pops up and starts creating the zany passive effects with exploding people and other angry effects.

While there appears to be a lot of technical jargon in the film, such as conversations among different characters, at some points, feel done poorly and/or improvised. While the approaches vary, some contend that strategic use of profanity can be comic relief; the movie, however, assumes that sheer volume of profanity results in filling laughter. And that noting, when the characters are actually attempting to be angry or even slightly annoyed, which appears like two or so occasions, the sheer number of F-bombs coming out tends not to land.

A more philosophical approach about the film is that this was meant to be a student film, Bez Nadir’s Directorial Debut: Student Film During Abed Nadir’s Community Era, where Sadly Samuel Dunning acted as the megalomaniac version of Jeff Winger when he was at his peak. Notable because Joel MeCale has taken Jeff on Community Keith David shared the appearance of Elroy on Community last season and he also featured in Tim Travers as The Simulator’s Show.

There is this entertaining plot with the animated dew where Tim Gamma and Tim Omicron fall in love after a very silly Tim orgy, but these are the only good parts of the story in my opinion. But, still, those two seem to be the best parts of the movie. This Delilah has the tendency to behave hot and cold. The English dub has given plenty of room for Miss Delilah to pursue making choices in terms of character engagement.

In the same vein, Snead’s Stimson the director in his own directorial work also acted in it as a hitman called Helter who again has appeared in the movie on several occasions. There is plenty of time left for him as well to forget passing a line over to Tim from a higher officer before he kills him. What is rationally acceptable, and quite consistent, is that Helter does not even try to establish interest freezing cold all along so why which man he killed who aims to do so again sometime? Each time excluding the incompetently written assassin story, Dunn pushes the temporal limit of the enemies to that claim until the entire movement runs out of basic steam it had carefully preserved in the opening scene.

The movie is certainly one of its kind and has attempted to actually explore the art of filming but even there, looking for science in sci-fi, is to be done but so far has not been conducted, but unfortunately, more time has been devoted to polish ideas. Regrettably, the movie offers cheap laughs which were poorly conceived and executed which makes it perfect for a truly agonizing experience.

Japan’s Junta Yamaguchi, who created the brilliant Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes and River, which are based on the same science, would offer a softer and even more interesting time travel experience.
