When I was a child, I had the impression that Good Boys watched in 2018, was one of the most vulgarly obscene comedies ever made. Maybe that’s the impression I got because it’s quite stunning to see kids use profanity, including the f-word. The Underdoggs is exactly how I want to be regarded as one of my all-time favorite movies. Off the charts, Turner goes through time piggybacking off This Is This Is I think also falls within the top 30, if not 20.
In the end, it is not of tremendous importance unless the movie is meant to be a comedy, and luckily The Underdoggs is not as excruciating as its name suggests, but then again we are talking about the movie that has Amerca’s all time favorite twisted in it. The movie centers around Snoop Dogg portray’s Jaycen Two J’s Jennings who plays a NFL wide receiver who’s slightly overweight with a diva-like attitude which makes Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr seem like Beethovens apprentices, Snoop Dogg portrays the role of a player who Jaycen, the first ever pick who was drafted in the most legendary career spanning over multiple decades as Snoop Dogg, multi million dollar showman, goes over two g-wagons and get hits. This scenario served as the turning point as they went viral and subsequently ended up working in community service around Long Beach California.
Jaycen has an aim to enhance his image and for the same he has a plan in mind. He chooses his childhood friend Kareem to be the coach for a bunch of mediocre middle school football players. Along with his partner Jaycen takes this football initiative in order to gather a fan base on twitter while simultaneously trying to impresscherise’, one of the player’s mother. The idea seemed foolish, however all of that took a turn when we got a chance to compete against andrew Schulz. Initially, Andres and Jaycen had agreed on going easy, but from that point onwards, the only option left for Jaycen was to take this project seriously. All the money and time put into this brand made a huge impact, twitter and other social media platforms managed to advertise the underdogg brand better than we could have ever imagined.
I’m so relieved that The Underdoggs does not devolve into another mindless stoner flick like Mac and Devin Go To High School, starring Snoop and Wiz Khalifa. The Underdoggs pays homage to the bro comedy genre without being dry and predictable. Yep, you are right. It’s probably the last ghetto sport movie that is along the same lines as the underdog ghetto sports movie however at the very least the ongeries are somewhat amusing due the barrage of level faces. Andrew Schulz, a cringe comedian who grew popular during the TikTok age, essentially plays the role of a dumb jock who also happens to be a boisterous coach and does some trash talk on his sports podcast in the evenings.
Jaycen is portrayed by Kal Penn who seems to have not started off with much respect for his hack client but seems to change his perspective once his image starts to develop. Again, in the third act Mike Epps gets one big laugh for acting like an interim coach in between plays while obnoxiously quoting Bible and George Lopez is cast as Jaycen’s high school coach. Then, there is a decent amount of cameos which include Tony Gonzalez, Michael Strahan, Terry Bradshaw and the list goes on as they all had something to do in the film.
Taking center stage while Merced Grizzlies football team operates as more of a unit instead of different heads is Jonah Booth as Tre who see
ms to have the most screen time. The young dual threat who holds a fresh skillset serves as a perfect example of a raw young quarter back that the world might expect of a young Lamar Jackson and he too possesses the same degree of arrogance that Jaycen did at the same age. Once Jaycen starts to realize and comprehend that how he should start to lead people, he progress on a mental level alongside with the young boy who is slowly coming to realize that his friend and a coach are a bit dense.
Nay! This one’s not set in the world of high art. Performance aside, it looks sleek and glossy like the rest of its counterparts as viewers would expect. Apart from that, the humor throughout the performances was really well executed, and hilarious to say the least. The amount of swearing in Uncle drew is ridiculous, yet it is still entertaining and funny. Seeing Snoop unleash his over the top persona is a joy, even if it does turn Jaycen Jennings into the epitome of a stereotypical main character. If I am being honest, Uncle drew is unlike Snoop’s recent projects since those felt like a byproduct of the marijuana industry. Unlike the rest of the viewers who will be attending the movie with certain expectations, i’ve come to the conclusion that Uncle drew isn’t all that great, and the film cover will especially confirm that. Every time I see a film that features Charles Stone III as the director, due to his immense talent people expect him to excel in every aspect of cinema, and excel he does, apart from screen writing. Who ever got the brain cell to think that writing an hour long scripted movie would be good idea is anyone’s guess.
