Although it is said losing a loved one is life’s most painful experience, there is no right or wrong way to grieve. It is a very personal issue and with it, comes a pain that needs to be faced. The most recent Passionflix adaptation The Air He Breathes showcases the journey of two individuals, who have lost a part of themselves and try their best to move on from grief to love.
La Air He Breathera, who are simply grieving over the loss of Tristan’s wife and their child, Charlie, and Elizabeth’s husband Steven, were severely lost but in time, found solace in each other. Brittainy Cherry, the author of the book states “The Air He Breathes follows Elizabeth (Kelcie Stranahan) and Tristan (Ryan Carnes),’.
The grieving process in Passionflix’s adaptations is something at which the filmmakers excel. Out of all the Passionflix movies I have watched, The Air He Breathes is the one that leaves me emotional the most. For the first time in a long time, I found myself crying multiple times throughout the film at different periods of the story. During this movie, ever heard of Elizabeth and Tristan? Well, they are two characters who meet during this time and are dealing with the major loss of something or someone close to them. Elizabeth and her daughter Emma decide to return to Meadows Creek, which they moved away from after her husband passed. At the same time, Tristan too has been hurt due to the passing of his wife Jamie and their son Charlie, which greatly affected his mental health, forcing him to spiral into depression. When the two of them should have crossed paths in a relationship, she ends up crushing his dog Zeus which begins their unfortunate series of events.
She gently observes the part of the man’s personality where he strongly feels emotion, especially rage and anger especially when he realizes how emotional he gets when he realizes that Zeus is actually not going to die.
Tristan ends up being her new neighbor, and when Elizabeth goes back home she realizes. It might be a bit of a leap for me, but that scene takes us directly into a well-established, old, and well-loved trope: the transformation of the antagonists into a romantic couple. It is quite noticeable already that unlike some people in town, whom a lot of people in turn do not like, he does have admirers. So, on the other hand, there are admirers, and since she also experienced bias from the townspeople, she is able to identify with him rather well. From the day she lost her husband, people in the village have already decided what kind of person she should be, which is quite unjust because she is just beginning to accept his death.
By definition, Tristan can be viewed as a recluse. He prefers to live through life rather than truly being a part of it; this is not a matter of he being a recluse by nature. This is until Elizabeth showed up. As much as he wishes otherwise, he can not do that. To put it simply, she lives next to him. Even though he can’t bear to confess it, he enjoys her company. For how many people you personally know are ready to give a hand with lawn mowing? Yet, as much as they would want to help her when she was going to make noise in the neighborhood, he was the first to advise her that it was not the best thing to do. However, after doing some research, he discovered that he, like her, was a widow. She, too, was now a widow. Elizabeth and Tristan now come to know that, in fact, they are not so different from each other.
Not long after, Elizabeth meets Tristan, and they begin to spend a great deal of time together. For Elizabeth, this is beneficial since he helps her with the maintenance of her house. On the other hand, as the two advance in terms of the nature of their relationship, he becomes more of an involvement to her. A catchy part is, the two are resolved to use each other for the intention of reminiscences of their deceased partners. So, what is the possibility of anything getting wasted? But yo know, both of them fall foe each other. Well, Elizabeth and Tristan are not quite ready to embrace the concept of open relationships. They both love over the moon, together with their ideal partners Steven and Jamie. It was lovely yet tragic at the same time to watch them in bed because of how intense their feelings are for each other. To some, it was ridiculous that they would do this but then again isn’t that what everyone is looking for? That is what these two were filling the gap for.
Tristan, the sort of a man who would never leave anyone room to doubt his love, tries to keep a distance from Elizabeth, but even offering to be friends is far too much for him as he desires to sleep and share a bed with her, this is possible though provided they are only friends. All of us know that does not work either because they have already been together sexually, and now, far too easy for them. As it is, the heart is said to be a wanton thing. And it is true, Tristan and Elizabeth are in love with one another. Unfortunately, there are many who would prefer that these two would never be seen in each other’s company. And the old wounds are sliced open in a manner that no one expected to be done. I’m not going to speak about it further because I’ve been warned by the girls that this is going to happen and I was not prepared for the shocks during Cherry’s novel.
The Air He Breathes is not the first book adaptation, but it is a pretty decent film. Stranahan and Carnes were both great in their performances as Elizabeth and Tristan. Stranahan was able to bring such lightness to Elizabeth there was a calmness in her performance that was also very strong. She should also be praised for her portrayal of the anger of Elizabeth. Carnes’s character though starts as a relatively mute person, I think he was very good in depicting the closed-up traits of Tristan and I enjoyed how he was finally able to start after a while a little bit, to one day be open to friendship and love. There were quite a lot of tears during this show. I believe it is the same quantity that came out as I was flipping through the pages of the book.
I should take it easy with my reviews as this could be one of the best movies from the Passionflix network. It is obvious that Director Rachel Annette Helson along with Cinematographer Sean Conley poured a lot of love into this movie, specifically due center to Brittainy Cherry’s book. The fans are the hardest to satisfy and it is a completely different thing to animate a story that is so close to the author, and the fans – and book fans know all too well how infuriating it can be to watch a director stumble when it is time to turn a book time into a movie. If you are looking for a good romantic drama then The Air He Breathes is worth watching for you and if you enjoyed drama quite a lot then this is a good fit for you.
