The audience of Bad Boys franchise is so invested that Kelly would agree to act in the third part of the series However, for me the initial two films are not impressive but still there exists a remarkable chemistry between the leads and a few spectacular action set pieces. This was also the case in the movie Bad Boys For Life, which I was under the assumption that the first sequel of the series impressed me. The last safe option seems to be Bad Boys Ride or Die Kid, and that’s what I was hoping to see here the sequel to the allegedly final part. This is why I find more or less the same enjoyment in Bad Boys 4 as I did in Bad Boys 3. Let us be more direct and explicit!Â
The plot of Bad Boys 3 is set a few years after the events of part two and in this, Mike Lowrey is getting wedded to the therapist and has moved on from the events of part three. This is quite a unique result for Mike as being emotionally unattached and a womanizer, such a brutish and powerful figure who of the best character of the entire series seems to accept. However, during the ceremony, his partner Lawrence Marcus Burnett, a character from the movies had a heart attack.
These two cases alter the image the maximum within the franchise.
After sustaining his injury that nearly killed him, Marcus gets a different view of himself and becomes more open. Mike becomes the panic warrior because he has something to defend in the gunfights.Â
I found some of these switches to be rather broad, whereas one was a personal unwelcome feature. From what I have learned regarding the story of Marcus, I found most of the humor where the joke is about him being an ignorant idiot, quite amusing. For the most part, this didn’t happen for me. These characters have been around since the 90s so giving them a new character sounds like a brilliant idea. Still, unfortunately, it appears to be a disservice to Marcus as it makes him look like a family man but the other style is more traditional.
So, as these characters are rather old, most of the humor that was able to pass was just Mike eye rolling at how amusing Marcus was.
It is worth noting that Mike’s character panic attacks seem to be part of his character’s natural development. Mike has always been the troublesome kid but in his earlier visions, he had no intention of protecting anyone. Whenever someone loses control of themselves in the middle of a gunfight, Mike defeats them and tries to understand them, which in reality is an interesting way to dramatize and try to comprehend Mike. To put it mildly, he is much more composed and has the ability to collect himself even during high pressure moments.
At the same time, the plot contains elements of Captain Howard’s (Joe Pantoliano) character, who is claimed to be a cartel associate since 2003, as part of the scheme involving the villains. Mike and Marcus plus Mike’s friend Armando who happens to be a gang member go on an assassination mission targeting Howard’s betrayals. Of course, the criminals are the ones going on the run in this story and Howard’s daughter, played by Rhea Seehorn in Better Call Saul is attempting to catch them. Naturally, this brings to mind the film The Fugitive.
Bad Boys from what I lived up to, is a film that combines the action, drama, and also the comedy genres quite well, And yet, that is not how most films out there would usually be judged or rated. It is astonishing for me to admit, but Bad Boys as a film combines the three mentioned genres and hearth programs. Another impressive thing, and one of the highlights of the film, was the way practical effects were used during the action scenes. It’s great to see blood squib technologists still around, especially with the current CGI hyperinflation. What I also liked were the camera and color grading switches as they were the right touch. Windows are installed for Bad Boys II of you who willingly will and can endure the torment of Ace and his brothers in the previous films. In this case, however, it is Reggie who in this movie is granted the best fights!
Now that I am viewing Bad Boys with the context of this particular film in mind, it is safe to say that this film disappoints and is quite average.
It is a movie to watch when you want to laugh and everything has a more lighthearted undertone throughout.
You make a solid point. The film appears to be an action comedy mix set in the 80s or 90s and it is surprising to see that there is still a market for action comedies in this day and age. The representation of Marcus did not appeal to me much and the comedy was lacking in the film but the primary plot kept me engaged. I would not word it as a great film for sure but it is not a bad film either.
