Christine alone played the part of a talented scriptwriter, producer, and even an actress as well when she independently released her kung fu movie first in the US. Goldsberry made her debut with the help of a Toni and Drama Desk award which won her an audience award for one of her movies at the Austin Film Festival. Ever since watching some of Christine’s remarkable work including ‘All About You’, Ezekiel Mob, 5th Ward, and Rare Hues, her fans have been on the edge to catch a glimpse of her future works for 15 years. Albany Road offers a new perspective on a genre seldom appreciated in the black community, the Genre of Road Movies, it also portrays the life of a middle class black East coaster in more depth while addressing the Battleground behind the facade of their success. Whitfield and Goldsberry get into their roles and tumble and toss around through the snowstorm as they are trying to resolve their issues. Nicholson’s Kyle is so lifelike that one can’t tell if he’s watching a pathetic, heartbroken man or a smug, petulant child. But with Lisa Arrindell as Carol, Joe Holt as Billy, Gary Dourdan as Phil, and Rachel Hicks as Morgan in one film, Albany Road boasts an all star cast playing out humble roles that carry deep meanings but never came off as too forced or clunky. It also contributes to the representation of the black community and the struggles they go through regularly.
Swanson and her husband, Michael Swanson, who serves as a studio executive, produced the film via their own company, Faith Filmworks, and contributed their own resources because they believed in the film’s vision.
